For those interested, Microcenter [microcenter.com] has the 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900K unlocked desktop CPU processor on sale for $549.99.

Amazon/Newegg/Best Buy all currently selling the same product at ~$620. And AMD's 5950X (which the 12900k consistently beats) is going anywhere from $670 at Microcenter to $750 at Best Buy. So if you're into top-of-the-line components, this seems like a good deal.

As with all things Microcenter, in-store pickup only.

Then you realized you have to pair a $300 MB

Then you realized you can't find memory anywhere with MSRP

I think if you're gonna buy a $600 highest end cpu , a three hundred dollar foundation or also have two hundred dollar option, is not a bad idea. Just like if I'm buying 5950x, I'm not going to skimp on the motherboard . Even though it would be cool to take a refurb b550 $ 50 dollar board and pair it with a $750 cpu

Also , correct me if I'm wrong, but some of the new platform chipsets still use ddr4.

Also, isn't this cpu more powerful than amds? And therefore warrant a slightly higher price?

Then you realize Z690 start at $180 and the cheapest boards can handle a 12900k no issue, while AMD's similar x570 with worse features start at $150. Or you just wait 3 weeks for B660 to launch if your on a budget.

Also you dont even need DDR5, most reviewers have shown that DDR4 3200 will be just as good for 99% of applications and games.

Might want to do research before commenting you don't need to use ddr5 they have boards that still support ddr4. Also MB's don't start at 300 those are for high end boards and unless you want the extra features you can go with a few options under $300.

CPU is a beast trades blows with AMD 5950X depending on your work flow but at the cost of very high power usage and generating alot of heat. You will need an awesome case and top-notch heatsink to prevent this from melting down.
