Looks like most of the Marvel Vol. 1 issues are $0.99 now. Just search for "Marvel Masterworks" and "Vol.1" and you can browse or search for who you like and it is likely discounted.
Edit: These are some of the pre-comic code "horror" stories that Marvel did. Someone referred to them as "like the Twilight Zone" or "Creepshow made in the 50s". Really neat view of a bygone era that also highlights some of the up and coming talent that would lead to all the famous superheroes.

Claremont's run would be the Uncanny X-Men Masterworks (volumes 1-12). It seems Volume 12 is the last collection they have released so far--although he continued to write into the 90's, IIRC.
Some of the later ones have a ton of content (400+ pages, vs ~200-250 for the earlier volumes) as they include mini-series of the time; for example, Uncanny X-Men Masterworks Vol. 9 [amazon.com] includes the Claremont/Miller Wolverine Mini-Series as well as the standalone "God Loves, Man Kills" graphic novel.
Finally, Amazon offers a suggested reading age for comics in the product info if you want a recommended age group. Many of these are rated "preschool and up."
I also highly recommend the Fantagraphics series Love & Rockets, which is one of the greatest comic series ever made. It's rarely discounted, but Amazon/Comixology has it for sale right now: https://www.comixology.
