Smart tech is better if you REALLY need to know its leaking. Many of us live in homes that're large enough to where we cant hear everything, especially these if its going off if we're on the other side of the house. I couldn't when I had a leak.
Smart tech is more expensive of course but you can know its happening even if you're not home. There's also shut off valves that can be controlled remotely too so if you're far far away, no worries.
Just something to think about.
By the way, when I got this and it was flooded, water ironically ended up getting on the inside and destroying it so it's not very waterproof.
Govee has a number of home automation products that work independently, but have added features if you connect them to your network. These water detectors, for example, will sound a loud alarm if they detect water.
But if you link them to one of Govee's wireless gateways, and connect that gateway to your Wi-Fi network, then in addition to sounding an alarm, they will also send a message to your phone. So you will know there's a leak, even if you're on the top floor or otherwise away from home.
Recently there have been deals on Govee detector bundles, both with and without a gateway. This bundle does not include a gateway.
i use the zircon water sensors that are similar to these and well known in addition to the smartthings type sensors. thinking about getting some of these too. when it comes to water flood damage id rather be overboard with water leak sensors then have to deal with damage from flood waters.
how much will be gateway cost? not able to find gateway alone to add to this? Also, what is the purpose of the gateway? just to get the alerts on mobile? can someone please let me know? Never had these products but need one for my basement now, TIA...
I'm going to hold out for another Wi-Fi gateway bundle deal. This is a great price, they do work without that hub, but I'm not confident that I'd hear them shrieking in the basement with the door closed.
if you are into DIY
if you can hear a fire alarm this hack will work: Hack[youtube.com]
I have this set (with a gateway) in a rental house, I like that they ring on device as well as alert me. The sound can be changed to low/med/high, and you can also have the app send an email notification as well. Thankfully no major water leak events yet, but occasionally water have been splashed in their vicinity and they have gone off. I think the only negative is that battery condition isn't transmitted on a regular basis, so you don't know ultimately when the batteries need to be replaced, at least from one review I have read (I haven't had a battery die yet).
