So this so-called "deal" is just a crock.

It's double wall and insulated, so completely inappropriate for cooking hi what you doing oh you want to lay on me and then be snuggly I can make that happen Kitty snuggles

(My cat interrupted me while I was doing speech to text, I'm going to leave that there for posterity.)

Ahem. It's double wall insulated, so completely inappropriate for cooking over a heat source, although it occurs to me that it might actually be perfect for cooking sous vide with an immersion heater. This product is pretty much only good for insulated transportation of preheated food, or possibly on the go cooking with boiling water. E.g. When I was a kid my grandma would take us for picnic at the park or sometimes even in the nearby canyons. Often times we would have hot dogs. While preparing the food in her kitchen, my grandma would get a big thermos, put in a few packages of hot dogs and then pour boiling water into the thermos. That would cook and plump up the hot dogs and keep them hot for hours, even in the old thermos, so when lunch or dinner time rolled around, she could open the thermos and we'd have still-hot hot dogs. 🌭 Family, fun, Hot dogs, potato chips, grapes and cold Shasta. Great memories.

This will probably also work just fine for things like rice, ramen or other pastas as long as you know exactly how much hot water to put in.

A few weeks ago I saw a thread on SD for two 1 gal (4quart) double wall vacuum insulated growlers for $29.99. They were pretty popular deal and on back order, mine are scheduled to be delivered around January the 2nd.

I would trust the screw top lid a heck of a lot more than four plastic latches. For a few dollars less you get 8 quarts(2.6x more) of insulated storage between two containers. As long as you don't mind a slightly narrower top, these are probably the way to go. 👍

Hope that helps! 🌟

The lid, latches and poor insulation, are the weak points of this device. It does a good job keeping the sides cool for carrying something hot, but you lose so much heat out the top don't expect hours and hours of heat retention and don't carry by the lid when full, the latches aren't that great.

This is not for cooking!!
You put your cooked food in and close lid so contents stay hot !!
Ex like for a cookout you bring a hot dish and it stays hot in closed pot !!

I own one and it works pretty well to keep chili or oatmeal warm for hours. The latches are the weak point but mine haven't broken yet.

This would be terrible for sous vide as the temperature will drop over time, guaranteed. And just a few degrees for sous vide matters.

double wall insulated....perfect for cooking sous vide with an immersion heater...

While any container will eventually reach thermal equilibrium with the environment, using this (or any) vacuum insulated container that would slow heat loss while cooking with an immersion heater can only improve the efficacy of sous vide cooking by helping to maintain the regulated temperature while also saving electricity.
