I haven't found this to be remotely the case in my use. Smooth as butter, very quick and haven't had the first bug or glitch.
Be aware that if you are a Cricket customer looking for a phone to use on their network this will NOT work starting February of 2022. It has to be the IN2015, which the T-Mobile version is not.
lol where do you people come up with this stuff. i've had it for like a month and it's fine.

I purchased the 8T+ (T-Mobile) on Dec 1, received it on Dec 15, and was not able to unlock it using the steps that have been given for unlocking the 8. I contacted T-Mobile and they said they didn't have the phone in their system and I would have to contact OnePlus. I contacted OnePlus customer support and they were beyond useless. They tried to tell me the phone had to be active for 40 days before it could be unlocked. I asked them to show me where that was documented and they continually ignored me. I believe that is the policy for boot-loader unlock but that is now what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to RMA the phone since I'm still in the 15 day window and after 2 days I'm still waiting on the information I need to send the phone back. I'm done with OnePlus after this horrible experience with their customer support.

I don't get why people are complaining. Carrier-specific deals are available for a purpose. Manufacturers are incentivized by carriers to give discounts over unlocked models which is the case here. Some of the comments here are really idiotic. It is the same with Samsung and even Apple. Similarly, merchants like Best Buy are incentivized for selling carrier-specific phones for a discount.

Is it really worth $180 more than the 8?
That's the only thing I don't like about this deal, as I don't think it's literally twice as good as the 8 which is on sale for $199 right now. It has faster charging, slightly better screen, and slightly better camera.... To me it's not worth it, but YMMV.

Good phone for $400. If you don't need wireless charging or the fanciest camera, the 8T is a solid Android phone. Still super fast/powerful for being 14 months old. RAM and storage are actually better spec than some of the more recent "flagships".

A quick google search will point you to know that Tmobile has to unlock your phone and not OnePlus. In this case, you were let down by Tmobile who say that the phone is not "in their system". Which I think means that it first needs to be activated on their network, and only then once the IMEI has been registered they can unlock it.

EDIT: Has anyone tried to contact Tforce on Twitter or FB to get the phone unlocked? They are usually more knowledgeable than your phone-based CS.

So does this mean you need to buy a prepaid plan in order to activate the phone on tmobile first?

I've had this phone on T-Mobile since almost immediately after its release (along with my wife, brother, and his wife). It has been a rock solid champ of a phone.
I'm no OnePlus fanboy but, yes, I have enjoyed the couple of phones by them that I have owned. Because these points will inevitably be brought up and beat to death on this post;
- yes, the camera could be better but it is still FAR from bad and can take some amazing photos. I have side loaded the latest Google camera app from XDA Developers and I honestly switch back and forth between the OnePlus camera and the Google camera apps depending on lighting and situation (I realized they reach have strengths and weaknesses pretty quickly when comparing the same photos taken with each).
- Yes, OnePlus has taken a big change in brand direction since the original CEO left and merging with sister companies. It was inevitable and there are other brands that have battled to be the next "flagship killers" out there. It is what it is and doesn't take away from this phone.
- No, there is no wireless charging on these phones but the wired charging speeds are ridiculous. I have not noticed ANY battery degradation in the ~1 year of use. It is excellent. I haven't plugged this phone in overnight once since owning it because 20-30 minutes in the morning and afternoon is plenty. YMMV depending on usage.
- Yes, there are better phones but you will be hard pressed to find one that performs at this level for this price. You can wait and see what is released in the next few months that will make this model more outdated or you can take advantage of the price and have a very capable device for another 2 years.

Overall, I am always tempted to have the latest and greatest but this phone is just damn good. I would love to have the absolute best camera, screen, and overall specs but I ultimately got this phone for free through bill credits with T-Mobile so it was a no brainer for me. I would say this price is very fair and a solid deal for an excellent phone that will suit nearly everyone's desires. It is fast, has a great screen (I get compliments on it from coworkers), charges quickly, maintains battery integrity, and is reliable.
Almost pulled the trigger, until I read your post and verified...no wireliess charging, no thanks. Only the Pro version has it. Thanks and repped

This is funny how marketing goes a long way. If this phone was called Xiaomi or Huawei yall would be crying about spyware phones, even though it's made by the same people.

Are you a tmobile customer? This only works for tmobile customers (my apologies if you are but it isn't clear from your post)

I don't mind the price difference, but unlocking was important to me, so thanks! Feeling less buyer's remorse now 😁

Generally you need to be a customer to use the phone unlock service from the carrier. (at least in my experience)

Just be aware that if you're buying this phone to use as a daily driver, OxygenOS 11 has been majorly buggy + slow. And OxygenOS 12 seems to be even worse, as they're merging ColorOS into OxygenOS but without fixing many of the issues on either skin + locking the software down even harder (like breaking the GCam mods that improve the camera). I'd recommend to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM ASAP.
My OnePlus 6 has been having constant issues with random freezing and hanging on network use. Started the day I upgraded to 11. There are a lot of complaints about Oxygen 11.1.2.2 on multiple models. My OP6 has also been flawless from day 1 until Android 11. Agree about using a different ROM but not sure if the BL can be unlocked on these..
