I bought this bundle last time. Directly through the manufacturer's site. Then that AMZ deal popped up a week later, just the unit. Free returned to Roborock. Love it thus far. Too bad that the solo unit doesn't seem to be compatible with the vortex ver of the bin. Would need an S7+ version so it seems

Hi,
Do you mean S7+ is actually S7 plus the auto empty dock?

That's correct. Irobot and Deebot use the same convention: plus means emptying base included

In case this is helpful to anyone: I got this robot on Amazon when it was the same price ($750) for Black Friday. I submitted a return request tonight, like an hour before seeing this thread.

Your situation may differ a lot from mine, so I fully support you if you decide to get it and/or own and love it. Just wanted to pass along my experience - ***and would also LOVE alternative recs, if anyone has them, for something that's a little more small-space/hardwood friendly and easier to maintain/use.***

For context: I live in a fairly small urban apartment with a tiny dog who doesn't shed a lot (no partner, kids, housemates, and so on). I work way, way too much - like 80-90 hours a week - and have a schedule that changes frequently.

Sadly, despite my hopes, the Roborick hasn't saved me any more time and effort than my old Shark IQ self-empty vacuum. which was not as awesome, frequently getting lost, failing to charge, or just randomly stopping for no apparent reason, but was less than half the price (https://smile.amazon.com/Shark-R1001AE-Self-Empty-Connected-Capacity/dp/B07S864GPW/ref=sr_1_4?keywor... [amazon.com]

In fact, I think it's created more work. The issues I had - and again, YMMV - are these:

1. Almost too powerful with less than amazing mapping skills: I scheduled my Roborock as soon as I received it to clean daily. After several weeks, it still hasn't mapped my space out well enough to deal with my - admittedly, renterly - ways. For example, as of last night, it's still knocking a very, very heavy mirror over that I have leaned up against a wall in my entryway because I can't mount it without destroying the whole wall...causing me to be unable to enter my apartment one night because there was this really heavy mirror blocking the front door and denting/scraping the paint off the wall the mirror fell onto. It also doesn't deal well with heavy rugs that aren't glued down and actually pulled up the not-rental-friendly double-sided rug tape I used and moved the rug across the floor. It also keeps closing doors in different rooms while cleaning and getting trapped, which leads me to the next item....

2. It gets stuck in smallish places...a lot: Since I received the Roborock, it's done its thing 25 times. 13 of those times, I've been alerted that my Roborock is trapped somewhere in my apartment, and I've either had to go on a hunt to find it or just wait until I or a guest discovers it somewhere. In addition to closing room doors, which inevitably leads to the robot becoming stuck, it seems to hate both of my bathrooms. If you don't have a big open-concept house with large rooms or doors that refuse to close when pushed, this is not the vacuum for you.

3. Not really RR's fault but the mop's not good for hardwood floors: I have marble and hardwood floors in my place and really should have thought the mopping feature through before I ordered. I imagine other mopping robots are similar so this really isn't necessarily a Roborock issue, per se. Still, in the interest of passing the info along...The Roborock cleans with water only, which dulls the finish of hardwood (but should be fine for laminate, vinyl, tile, etc.).

4. The mop's not low maintenance - for me, at least: Even if I could use water on my hardwood floors, I feel like running a mop over my space would be easier than using the Roborock. I live in an apartment and also work too much, so again, this might not affect you. But in case it's helpful to someone: Before each cleaning, you have to

a. remove the RR from its base, uncap the tiny hole that leads to the water tank, and refill it from your sink or with a funnel if you want to use distilled water
b. make sure you've laundered your mopping pad if you cleaned with it before, and then
c. pre-moisten the laundered mopping pad so it's fully damp when the clean starts.

Since I don't have tons of space to go over, and my schedule tends to vary, making it hard to prep for a clean promptly, I'm fairly sure I could just as easily pull out my Swiffer WetJet (which I've hacked to be able to refill with my own cleaning solution) and mop real quick after the floors are vacuumed.

5. My floors aren't getting well vacuumed: In part, because it keeps getting stuck during cleans and therefore not finishing and in part, because the design of the sweeping brushes below doesn't seem to itself to sweeping up/removing debris from corners or the edges of floors, I feel like my floors are less clean than they were when I was using my old Shark robot. I don't know if other robot vacuums have superior brushes for tackling edges and corners, so this may just be what using a robot is like. Wanted to mention it, though.

Hope this is useful to someone! FWIW, I'm sure the RR is a good, solid machine. It's just not quite "smart" or low-maintenance enough to be worth $750 - to me, at least,

I could not get this deal to work with the white version on either Amazon or directly from Roborock. Seems to only work on the black bundle for now ☚ī¸
