This doesn't sound like much of a deal.

You'll be holding for quite a while but it would be an epic deal.

With 4 of these 6TB drives, I probably could have opened up my own cloud data center 20 years ago! [lol]

It works out to 16.67 per TB which is fine right now, but we've had tremendously better. Under $15/TB is where I personally start to get interested.

I also thought 6 TB and under were lousy SMR drives. I bought 28 TB for under $800. This doesn't get me out of the bed in the morning.

Is it your opinion that 24TB is a massive amount of storage?

I'm trying to figure out what the joke is since I have currently around 100TB.

HDDs were generally between 60-80GBs back in 2002. I'm pretty sure they were just having a nostalgic moment thinking how far we've come in a relatively short amount of time. With HDDs capping out at 20TB's today it's quite impressive that the same 3.5 inch form factor houses 250 times the storage it did 20 years later. With data centers favoring NVMe storage (depending on the task) and the 3.5 inch HDD slowly reaching it's physical and practical limit we may soon see HDDs cap at a specific size and stay there.
