OMG, been waiting for this deal on a thinkpad!

I maxed out all specs for a total of 1160.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1...sp=sharing

That's 4k display, 5850U, 48gb ram, "backlit keyboard" WAN LTE card, and card reader!
Took the 128gb ssd, will be swapping for something better!

Make sure you choose the backlit keyboard, it's not obvious that it doesn't include it!

The difference between 32gb ram and 48gb ram was $130, all the 32gb ram modules on amazon were more than $130 so getting it from the factory is a better deal!

I will be swapping out the SSD, I am going to put a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB in her!

12 months no interest payments! it's a deal man!

This is arguably the best deal for a Highspec Thinkpad I've seen since Black Friday!

btw make sure you go throu R10 for extra 8% cashback and enable your SD extension!
How tough is it to replace an SSD on a machine like this? I was thinking of doing the same with the 128GB SSD, but I'm completely inexperienced with opening up laptops (or computers in general).

Very simple. Its a 15-20 min process. Tonnes of youtube videos on it.

Basically just need to pop the back cover off and the SSD is directly accessible.

What did it show you for the estimated build time? 3+ months? I just did the same config.
Yes 3+ but the previous orders I heard it's likely going to be earlier than later.

T14 is the thicker version as I recall, my work used to give out T420S (slim). These are great desktop replacements for a small apartment or a student that wants to leave their laptop at their desk. Sure it's portable but just be mindful it is on the heavier side.

Not anymore. The difference between the S variant and regular for the current generation is just 1.1mm. Same with weight difference, less than 0.3lbs. Now all laptops are portable Smilie

I'm typing this to you on an 8 year old Yoga 2 Pro, still going strong.
I am also on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro typing this... it's been great but mine is on it's last leg. Wifi is finnicky and lasts 1 hr on battery. And turns off randomly lol

I have this laptop. It doesn't have Thunderbolt, just USB c. How can I use 2 monitors with it, or do I have to have Thunderbolt? Great laptop.
Maybe a docking station might do the trick.

i ordered it 2 days ago - got it just fyi you will be getting RTL 8852AE WiFi 6 wireless card which is not in the mainline kernel yet - scheduled for about jan 9th.

Display is very bright - i see this model in HWINFO: display Lenovo LEN416B Manufacturer: MNE001EA1-5. presumably CSOT is a manufacturer - I have no complaints for quality.

Thinkpad Ultra Docking Station or Thinkpad Pro Docking Station. I think can maybe daisy chain monitors might be another solution but I'm not sure about that one.
Yikes, that's another 300+. Already spent 200+ on an elgato thunderbolt 3 station months ago. Ugh.

This is a real T series Thinkpad too. I have an 8 year old real T series thinkpad and a 2 year old 'e495' thinkpad. And there is quite a difference. The e is an adequate laptop. But you can feel the build quality and the unmatched (and backlit) keyboard on the T.
I haven't had my hands on this one in particular though... but that T series distinction has long been the case.

Question to Experts.
Can I use any Data Only Sim card (like Google Fi) in this, if I get the 4G LTE module with it?

Last year I gave in and did a battery replacement ($50) and upped the wifi chip ($30) so it supports the new standards, and it made a major difference in my quality of life with the thing. It was very simple, as the wifi, battery, and SSD are all easily accessible and unscrewed after removing the rear panel. I'd recommend it!

I thought I saw that the s variant only had soldered ram, at least on the regular T14 1 of the dimms are user replaceable.
