Just get the version with a plunge base ($159) if you're not exclusively using this to be mounted on a table in my opinion, the base by itself is gonna run you over $100 unless you happen to find it on clearance.

That's a great deal... it's so good you'd almost think Bosch was flushing out their inventory of 1617's so that they could release a new router in the next 4 to 6 months. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

Pay with Discover to save an additional $5.50 (Amazon is in the 5% cashback category this quarter). That drops the price of this router to less than $105.

What could possibly change?? I dunno. I hate removing the router in and out of the table. I have very little shop time to myself as is.

I have the Metabo plunge base router. I is it worth upgrading to the bosch unit? How do they compare?

I've had one of these for about 20 years. Not sure what they'd want to improve on it.

I remember reading the Metabo is good, so probably not a major upgrade for the extra cost. Pretty sure the Bosch is better, though.

This is only fixed base, though

Sorry for my ignorance, but is the plunge base able to be purchased at a later date(if I needed to have one) and used on this fixed base?

Got the metabo when it was frontpage for $80 or thereabouts, returned after using one time. Everything about it felt cheap, especially plunge action (needed to melt and bend a piece of the dust guard to even get full depression). Bosch is definitely worth the extra money if you're using it more than once or twice a year.

Yeah, but overall reviews were still positive
