The 3000 series Dremel rotary tool has a bit more powerful 1.2 amp motor. It's also a bit more expensive at $49.

The 3000 series shows as $49.00 for me. The bigger selling point for me is that it is variable speed. The OP is high/low only.

I agree the variable speed is useful when cutting some plastics with a slower speed so it doesn't melt

A good belt sander would likely work better and cover more area to make the removal faster.
