That $499 one day deal was last July 9th. If there is a $499 listing on eBay now, I wonder if it would be covered by the Apple warranty. In addition, eBay will charge sales tax.

Yep, got one of these as open box a few months ago for $510 on eBay. Was $549 after tax.

Was thinking about getting a 2018 Mac mini 16 gb of ram for 579... And then this pops up. Hmm.
The M1 is legit with the performance, I have the Mac Mini 8gb and the MacBook Air M1 with 16gb of ram. ATM it's overkill to have that much ram considering how it handles everything. Runs circles around the intel Macs I had before.

Thank you for the push on this. Of course I'm trying to future proof myself but that's M1 vs old Intel with the only pro for the Intel being 16gb of ram. Gonna do it!

It's better to go with the Intel for legacy apps but other than that M1 for sure
For my use case, a $749 m1 Air was better than a ~$600 Mini mainly because they keep their value slightly better, and because of the few times a year I could use it in portable mode. Just consider the Air is barely more and just as fast.
