Yeah, I had a store try and sell me an open box as new. The manager actually thought that I would take it

They used to do this to me years ago. Like 10 years ago. I'm not sure if they actually still do or people just remember that they used to and regurgitate this idea.

Happened to me in 2018. Only this one store, not the one I regularly went to.

Happened to me about a month ago. Opened case and disc kept separately in a paper sleeve. The clerk told me it was still brand-new. It did look brand-new and worked fine, but yep - still doing it.

Happens all the time because they display an open box of a sealed retail unit they get in. They could do what a respectable retailer would do and use Alpha boxes or order some empty cases for the shelf, but... Well it's GameStop.

Is the game any good? One thing I hated about the PS4 generation was that there were barely any racing games released for it. Xbox 1 had multiple forzas

There's a series x version that costs more and can only be played on series x/s. I don't know how much better the detail is or if it's worth holding out for.

if its the last one on display yea they will. Not going to put a brand new game on the shelf for it to be stolen.

If the last copy at Gamestop is the one on display (on the shelf) they absolutely will sell it at the new price and call it "new", even though it's opened and the game has been taken out of the case. The disc will be unplayed, and it most likely will be in great shape.

However, as most people agree, "new" usually means unopened. This is one reason people hate Gamestop.

Granted, for many people it doesn't matter - they're going to open the game anyway. But if this is a gift or if you are a sealed game collector (some people are!) then yeah it's kind of a big deal.

It's a pretty crappy thing Gamestop does so that they don't lose $5 on their last copy of a game 🙄

Seems like they could use cardboard prints like what Costco used to do for games. That would have minimal cost, and provide something the customer can look at and take to the front of the store.

I have bought a number of games from GameStop recently and had a good experience, but I have avoided in store pickup for this reason.

Wish Amazon price matched the Xbox version.

Not worth setting foot in a GameStop.

I ordered a new game online last week and they sent me an opened one with a new sticker on it. They also put a clear sticker on the edge so they say it's "sealed"
