We currently have Sprint (have not upgraded to TMobile), does Metro operate using the Sprint / T-Mobile towers? Our reception currently good but Metro monthly price would be less than what we are paying. I don't want to switch if my coverage reception would drop off.
Anything is better than Sprint

If so, I think they're quite close. Visible claims tethering speed is capped at 5M (in fact, peers get 10M), 5M /8bit = 640k, 10M->1280k, close enough
Haha, your math is way off

Nope, your friend is a liar...... MVNO's do not count
Not sure who you are directing that at but multiple people on the MetroPCS subreddit have said Mint mobile (TMobile MVNO) is not eligible since the line is already on T-mobile network.

Called a local store - said $20 for activation and another $20 for SIM card, plus you pay the $25 for the first month.

This must be a recent change to allow any unlocked phones to be unlocked on their website then, because a year ago they still required it to be a T-Mobile or Metro phone to use their website and everyone else had to call in or go to a store. It's still dumb they require you to do any of this instead of just pop out the sim and put in the new phone like every other carrier though.
Wrong, I've been with them for 5-6 years and never had to pay to activate my new phones and they don't have the be TMO or Metro. I do have to call them and they never charged me. If they do, I am fairly certain they'd be more than happy to waive that. I've upgraded my phone 3 times while my wife and 2 kids 2x. A lot of misinformation spread.

I would tell them to make it more profitable, they should charge $200 for Sim card, and maybe consider charge customer another $100 process fee.

Is tax/fees included in the $25 price?
Yep... That's the beauty of pay as you go. Every month for me has been $100 for 4 lines for the last 5 years. Not a penny more.

But I'm on a grandfathered plan so it doesn't expire. Hopefully...

Metro still makes you contact them and pay a fee whenever you switch phones. They lock your sim to whatever phone you activate on their network.
I got this deal and moved from Verizon. few months ago.
You can go to the website and create your login. Once logged in, you can switch device on website with 0 fee

I was on their $25 connect plan sometime last year and service was horrible in the Austin area. Visible was just as bad.

Don't lie. My friend ported from Mint to Metro four days ago without a glitch and in just 5 minutes. No issues with the porting or dealing with the store employee.

I have current information, which is more recent than a one year old subreddit thread.

I got this $25 promo in August. I assume it's the same thing since they had it on their website for long time. I remember in fine print, If you bring your own phone, price is locked as long as you keep the account. If you get a free phone, price is locked for 2 years.

Wtf are you talking about lying? If they changed the terms, great, I'm on Mint and may even port over, but it's not like I'm just pulling shit out of my ass here.
