The underlying technology doesn't matter that much. Actual performance matters. Modern QLC can wipe the floor with old enough SLC designs. And write endurance only matters in rare cases, so QLC is fine for 99% of us.

The only bad thing is when Samsung swapped in QLC on some cards without changing SKUs. That's a dick move. Can't trust nobody.

The 1TB deal went away for a while - looks like it is back. Good for OP for finding it again.

I could use this but I have trouble supporting this business

https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/ne...ees-571983

https://www.thephoblographer.com/...imination/

In October 2007, it was announced that B&H Photo agreed to pay US$4.3 million to settle allegations that it discriminated against Hispanic workers, while not admitting any wrongdoing.
In November 2009, a lawsuit against B&H Photo alleged that the store refused to hire women, in violation of New York City and New York State Human Rights Laws. The lawsuit, brought by four women, sought class action status on behalf of all women discriminated against by B&H over the course of many years. Given B&H's prior alleged discriminatory practices, the lawsuit sought US$19 million in compensatory and punitive damages to deter future discriminatory practices. In 2011, a lawsuit alleged discrimination against Hispanic workers.
In February 2016, the United States Department of Labor Office of Contract Compliance filed a lawsuit against B&H alleging that the company had only hired Hispanic men into entry-level jobs in a Brooklyn warehouse, and then subjected them to harassment and unsanitary conditions. On August 16, 2017, the company announced that it had settled this matter for a reported $3.22 million, while not admitting any wrongdoing.
In November 2019, According to The Verge, the Attorney General of New York state filed a lawsuit alleging that B&H knowingly failed to pay millions of dollars in sales taxes due in New York. The company's spokesperson has said that "B&H has done nothing wrong and it is outrageous". According to B&H, the Attorney General is alleging that customers should pay sales tax on pre-discounted prices, not on the actual selling price, which is the widespread industry practice.

p.s defin not getting my business- i'd be willing to pay extra $20 and buy it elsewhere.

It looks like the $30 off coupon is taking it down to $129, but it actually does show as $100 before tax in cart. Best deal around at the moment if your mobo doesn't support gen4.

"3-Bit MLC"
What a funny word.
It's TLC then.

But still better than garbage QLC.

Good price for a good drive.

BHP's tax eliminating credit card is pretty great. I got over $90 back this year alone, and there's no annual fee garbage to deal with. Also, dare I say it, BHP has some great used deals. My synology RAID is humming along rather nicely.

Actually the "M" in MLC stands for "multi" or "multiple". It refers to the ability to store and address more than two voltage levels. Samsung is technically correct. This is the older nomenclature for storing multiple bits per flash cell.

Going by the "TLC", and "QLC" nomenclature, two bit MLC would be named something like "DLC" for "dual" or "double". TLC and QLC are purely marketing terms for retail consumers (enthusiasts) to differentiate flash types and aren't actually used in an engineering setting.

This is a similar issue to what Intel faced with their process nodes. For a long time, they denoted their process using (I think) the gate length. TSMC's 12nm process, on the other hand, actually didn't refer to any physical measure. It was a marketing term to denote density and generational changes and the transistor density was usually a bit worse than what used to be Intel's 14nm process at the time. That is why Intel finally caved and renamed their 10nm process to Intel 7, to denote that its similar performance and density to TSMC's 7nm.

I think you need at least 5500 MB/s for ps5

That's self conflicting. You saying QLC very good. Same you saying swapping in QLC is bad.

They said QLC is fine but it is a duck move to switch from SLC/TLC to QLC while keeping the SKU the same so buyers think they are getting the same thing when they are not.

So nobody seems to have mentioned what is actually happening with this drive. Samsung did change the controller without changing the model number (still 970 EVO Plus, though they did change the part number on the sticker, see link below). So is that wrong? IMO if the performance still hits the specs, then it is ok. In today's day and age, the manufacturer may need to source different parts due to supply issues. Samsung seems to have done this. Should they make a different model number for every single variant? I think it is ok not to. They dont want an Evo 970+ and an EVO 970.1+ and an EVO 970.15+ etc.

https://www.tomshardware.com/news...-parts-too

Now, the issue is that less-reputable companies are changing components that cause notable performance decreases (both speed and endurance in the case of SSDs switching from TLC to QLC NAND) without telling anybody, and that is definitely wrong. Samsung doesn't appear to be doing that, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I would be interested to find out what drive B&H is shipping. The decription still mentions the (original) Phoenix controller but I would not be surprised if people get a drive with an Elpis controller.

I ordered the 500gb 970 Plus from B&H on 12/26, it arrived yesterday, on 12/28. Shipped from NJ to Ohio. Can't speak for the 1TB, would assume it's the same…?
