If someone wants a free version with windows. Download Powertoys. It does not include tabbing though

one keyu advantage of the steam version is that you can install on all computers that you own as long as they have steam, so this is more comparable to the Pro personal license that they sell at $ 22

I understand you don't think it's useful but it's silly to say it should be free.

No, only vdm (virtual display manager) and nvidia driver do the real virtual monitor.
Thanks for mentioning VDM, just installed that and I think I like it better than DisplayFusion, only difference is, I did like having the taskbar for each screen, because the application icon would only show on the screen that it was being used on

I'm sure someone probably already asked, does Steam have to be running for this software to be used? That would make this a non-starter for work computers.

I have multiple monitors, including a 50" 4K monitor. Display Fusion is great for creating multiple monitor/window setups that I can hotkey between. It also allows you to change sound settings with each profile, which can be very useful for switching between a gaming/personal setup and a work setup.

Well worth $10 in my opinion.

it does not.

edited to add: strangely, the app as installed via steam is called "display fusion pro on Steam" but you don't need to have steam running in order to run the app. My steam is closed now, and display fusion pro is running. I guess I can't say definitively whether you just need it for installation, or whether you need it during launch, but you certainly don't need steam open.

I'm pretty sure they mean if you put one window (let's say a web browser with Youtube) into fullscreen mode it will only take up its virtual window and not the entire monitor.

Great software for multiple monitors or ultrawide monitor. Use it all the time to split my CRG9 into 3 virtual monitors.
Any info how this would behave while sharing a virtual monitor while in zoom/teams call? Currently sharing screen is very painful with ultra wides. Any info is appreciated!

It should be free. It will not contain full screen video in "split", therefore it is not real spliting. I don't know what is the purpose of this app? Anything it does can be done free in windows or powertoys.

If you need windows splitting, virutal display manager($35) is the only option so far. Nvideo driver also has the same feature, but only for nvideo cards.
I also use it for whenever I open something from the Taskbar, it opens to whichever monitor I clicked on instead of a primary or where it was opened last

Will DisplayFusion let you control virtual desktops on multiple monitors so that I can control each virtual desktop on each monitor independently?

Great app on its own, especially so at this price.
I use this app and combine it with using VR virtual desktop, this combination makes for a ridiculously information dense interface, which is incredibly useful for most of my computer hobbies. Programming, digital artwork, 3D modeling, CAD, photography and photogrammetry, video editing, VM and server monitoring / maintenance. This has been especially true for VM work because I can have a dedicated 'screen' or sub-screen for each system, and the same for remote desktop to other PCS.

A lot of people might not see any huge benefit by running an app like this, but for me it's been very useful in the windows environment.

By having everything just there and available I've a noticed that I rarely waste any time anymore waiting for things to load up, compile or batch processes to complete. If something's busy I can just switch over to another desktop view and still stay productive while being able to monitor everything else with a glance.

If anybody finds a better program, let me know. 👍

I wanted a program that did pretty much *just* the FancyZones part of PowerToys, since I didn't anything else from PowerToys. It took me forever to figure it out, but with DisplayFusion it separates each section into its own so that when you maximize a window in that section, it just maximizes to that area. I understand that for some people, but for me, I just wanted sections to move things to and have then snap easily and even with my areas. I kept DF for the selective monitor/window dimming, which is AMAZING. For the windows snapping, I actually came across WinDock, which is incredibly tiny and takes a sec to configure, but works absolutely perfectly!

In my office steam is disabled (can not even login). Now DRM may not be a separate process but can be some boot strapping code embedded in the binary which will do some checks and load the actual program. So even if steam is not running, that may not be the confirmation that it will work in you case.

My point is that you have to test it in your network to see if it works or not, considering steam has free returns if you used it for less than 2 hours, so you can try and get a refund if it is blocked.

Thanks for the WinDock tip! Really just wanted a program that would create snap zones that would split my ultrawide into thirds instead of the Windows default capability that only appears to halve it into right and left 50% sections. This utility did the trick! I can also snap a window to the top and make it so it only maximizes to the center 50% of the monitor. Anyone with an ultrawide knows how pointless and annoying it is for most windows to be maximized to the full width of the monitor.

Windows default is not halving. You just hover your mouse to the maximizing icon of any window, and a list of different panel config will show up.
