It's all about temperature and flow control of the process. These are also made to last. Mine of this exact model but in black is 9 years old now, and I bought it used because I couldn't afford a $270 coffee maker 9 years ago lol.

The thermal carafe is nice too, keeping coffee warm-almost-hot from brewing at 8am through lunch at noon with no added heat (no heat plate, only vacuum carafe). Buy some Urnex Cafiza to clean it every few months (or sooner), and you're good to go. I've been very happy, but all that said, no, it's probably not worth the price difference between this and the Bonavita (or apparently this new-to-the-scene OXO with thermal carafe).

1. Water Temp: it gets water to ~205* F the proper temperature for brewing coffee. Most only get to 175-180…ever had sour coffee? That's because it's under-extracted…the water needed to be hotter to get the best out of the bean.

2. SHOWER HEAD: not all coffee makers shower heads are the same. This head sprays so that water evenly distributes. This guy shines here.

3. Kraft: stainless isn't my favorite because it can impart a metallic taste if you leave coffee over long periods. If you drink your coffee in a reasonable time frame- you shouldnt have issues.

Overall…this is a great buy and it will last you forever. For real. And if you need a part you can buy individual pieces. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger here as it's the lowest I've ever seen from a big box store.

I'd recommend spending a bit more and getting the KGBV Select *IF* you drink smaller brews. It has a switch for full and half carafe brews so if you drink smaller brews, the machine is still able to deliver SCA quality.

Educate me on this $270 coffee machine plz.
Moccamaster seems only one coffee machine that makes hot coffee (~95C), all others make 70C coffee. Hotter is better and stays drinkable longer even when using thermos.

Is this the largest/best version or is there a "better" version?

Just purchased the 60 oz model on Amazon a couple of days ago. Wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It legit makes the best drip coffee you will ever have. I may return the larger one for this deal, though. As OP said, they rarely go on sale and the larger one would come out to $100 more.

I have one with the glass carafe I got from Bloomingdale's for around $125 and it's awesome, although to keep it a hundo p I'm not sure what makes it much better than normal makers
When did you land that deal?

Isn't the select a 10 cup carafe? Making a half carafe 5 cups which is 40 oz, which is the capacity for this product?

I have the glass carafe KGBT Select model and it makes a great cup of coffee. I'm not too educated on drip coffee makers, but this makes a better cup than the Mr. Coffee I used to have lol, and definitely better than the Keurig that I have as well. The flavor is smoother and more defined if that makes sense, gives you that "first sip feeling".
