I have been using pen tablet for more than 20 years. In my opinion the current wacom intuos line (which doesn't include the former intuos 3 ,4 and 5) offers worst value for money. You either go with their high end intuos pro model or just buy huion, xp pen with the same money you spend on this for a better product. And for teaching and notetaking a 25 dollar huion will do the job.

Just my two cents.

This rarely goes for below $70 on amazon. Even at $50 it sounds like a great deal. This is currently the lowest price it's ever been on Amazon by 20%. Slick deal

This or the Wacom one? I know this is a step up but it's also older?

Assuming you meant "One by Wacom" which is different from the "Wacom One", in addition to more pressure levels (and bluetooth) this apparently has a better pen which is probably the only difference you will actually notice. This also has buttons on the pad but I don't think most people use them.

This was $50 forever. Not a massive discount
$ amount might not seem like much but 20% off on any electronic seems significant to me. Definitely SD material in my book.

Do xp pen and huion require you to wear a glove?

Closest equivalent would probably be H640P, which I have had for a couple of years.

is this mainly for taking notes or can it be used well for illustration and photoshop work? i do light to medium illustrator/photoshop stuff at work but have limited desk space, and always wanted to try a wacom to see if i'll be better than with a mouse. or is there a better option for drawing?

no, but they usally bundle a tablet with a glove for better discount. I personally don't wear a glove when painting, but I can see it can help with sweaty hands.
