Those grill indentations seem like they'd accomplish the same goal as the dimples though. Wish this was in a 5.5 qt, as that's all I need. Great deal, OP.

This is a great pot and selling for $400 everywhere else. The only problem is its weight and my wife already protested that she's not using or washing any of my cast iron cookwares. Oh well, I will deal with her later. Just ordered one. Thanks OP.

Don't regular stuabs usually have dimples built into the lid to allow condensation to drip back into your food for natural basting? Seems like that feature would be missing with this lid but you do get another pan out of it

Yes, you are right. Their original dutch ovens have dimples and a knob to lift the lid off easier. So if you needed a good dutch oven then that might be a better investment instead.

Some folks like myself might be actually looking forward to using the grill pan separately and will plan to just use the pot with a spare lid.

I don't like this feature for the simple fact it makes it very difficult to clean and I don't believe they do that much. I have them on two non-Staub dutch ovens and the lids are such a pain to clean.

Odd, I find the lids very easy to clean. All the dimples are rounded with no edges/crevices for food to stick to or sponge to catch on. If there is ever anything on there besides the steam condensation it usually comes off with with a quick wipe because it's been steamed to oblivion.

I have the 3.37qt grill pan & cocotte and almost never use the grill pan. Mine fits a porterhouse perfectly and I can use it to cook most things. 7qts would be just too big for most applications unless your cooking up dishes to feed 5-6 people.

There is really only one way to cook a real streak. That's pan-fried on a cast iron or a carbon steel skillet. Sure, they're great on the grill too but nothing beats a perfectly seared steak on a skillet with garlic, a couple of sprigs of thyme, good olive oil and lots of butter.
