FYI You can get this for about $100 less if you can verify with Id.me directly from GE. I paid around $450

Seems to be only an added military discount that brings it down that much

I have considered buying a countertop cubelet maker like this for some time (though I haven't done anywhere near the amount of research that others on here have).

I've.been thinking about buying the Frigidaire EFIC-235 that goes on sale on Amazon for about $280 pretty often. How is this better?

I bought an expensive GE Profile Refrigerator and it's been a piece of cheaply made crap. The door shelves keep breaking(3X so far) and they are $73 a pop to replace. The drawer shelves in the refrigerator have broken at least once and they are very expensive to replace as well. This is all under normal use. Read the reviews of GE fridges this is a common problem. I can't believe this ice maker is made any better. I will never buy another GE product.

Is there a reason they use "XL" in the title to describe the side tank? Best Buy doesn't call it that?

yes you can.. its a little diy.. search online for instructions. my is piped from my RO water line.
The only issue I've seen with these projects is there is no automatic turn off if the float valve fails and they can fail.

got the taotronics nugget ice maker for under $400 almost a year ago and it has been great. Although looks like they are hard to find now.

Oh, these are totally the best interactions. My wife got to turn the tables on me this fall. She bought some Target "Made by Design" glass storage containers with the snap tops. JFC, like we don't already have enough tupperware? It's like an avalanche just opening that cabinet. I mean, sure, glass v plastic - man boobs and genetic damage and orange colored containers that we've microwaved spaghetti sauce in. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Then I made a batch of guac and put it in one of the containers. The next day it had not turned brown on the top. Impressive, so I left half in rather than eating all of it. Two more days, practically no browning. What?!? I took one chips worth out and left the rest. After FIVE G D DAYS there was a slight discoloration on the top layer - probably due to me opening it the two previous times. It would have been gray goo by day three in the usual storage.

Needless to say, I ordered three more sets (with a coupon and the GC I got for 20% off, this is SD, after all), and threw out nearly all the other plastic storage-ware. And, yes, I let her say, "I told you so" without even flinching.
Man boobs Tupperware... We're talking about an ice maker here

I bought my 2.0 from Best Buy almost two years ago. Only use distilled water and bought the 4 year warranty (that I never buy except for all the issues I say with the 1.0).

Go through about a gallon of water per day mainly for myself. My two year old son loves just eating the ice also.
I didn't know about pagophagia until I read every comment in this thread. Learn something new...

Snap out of it. So many people say this dies in 1-2 years. Not a good thing to shove $500 at.

Warranty will only get you another one that is likely to die in 1-2 years. After spend half your life trying to get someone on the phone who will do the warranty, the warranty ends, then the one you have dies within a year or two.

Horrible dynamics here.

If everyone was saying this thing lasted forever, I'd buy it.
It lasts forever, I promise

Anyone know if they have these cheaper in-store at the warehouses?
Also, what the heck does the wifi connectivity do? Doesn't it have to always be on to keep from melting?
