a 10V 10A source can push 1w to a 100 ohm load, 10w to a 10 ohm load, 100w to a 1 ohm load.
I'm keeping my Yamaha RX2010 (9.2) as my sound processor works for me (YPAO). I do have front presence speakers and 4 surrounds, with 2 subs, not sure what Atmos would add, as my family room isn't perfect. Probably not much, but not sure I'd want to spend 2k on another AV.
I just added a 8k Switch with an Audio extractor.
Pretty jaded already after upgrading in wall HDMI cables (prolly an HDCP issue), lubbing cables and pulling and cutting drywall at times or else Xbox X wouldn't work right with the extractor. Now it does.
I don't actually care about 8k at all, but it seems like videogames and new streamers will push the HDCP side of things, IDK
I will consider completely separating audio from video, with preamps and power amps if this craziness continues into HDMI 3.3b and HDCP 4.0 etc.
Atmos, when done properly (minimum of 4 Atmos Channels all in ceiling speaker config) sounds absolutely amazing. It changes the way you listen to the audio of any movie and fully immerses you inside of the action.
Even though Yamaha has recorded DSP fields from some of the world's most iconic venues...
You don't know what you're missing.
If you're only going to use your receiver to watch movies and listen to music then I agree, no big reason to upgrade. But for multimedia consumers I don't think paying 800 for this receiver is worth it.
What does the receivers test tones do? Does the surround channel from the test tones come out the rear? Some of these receivers let you substitute amplifier channels maybe that's the case? I do not know about this specific model

Either way he probably needs to run it again and make sure the speaker channels are assigned properly.
Yes. Don't you need eARC to get atmos from the tv too? How can it not have eARC?
