If you prefer a pressure cooker, it's definitely not for you. In my case, I don't really like using a pressure cooker, but I like the versatility of this cooker for all the other functions. For those who don't want the PC option, it's a great appliance at a great price.

I got mine from a groupon for $25. Not free, but not bad if you will use the membership.

"Aroma takes the cook out of home cooking"
"Perfect for re-heating take-out"

Calling it a great appliance at a great price doesn't make it so. It is a hot pot of late 1990's technology offered at the same price as a 2022 multicooker. It's like selling a car with no reverse gear to people who are afraid to back-up.

I think Costco used to sell this model for $30 but no longer available there.

I went through two aroma units over ten years. We cook rice a few times a week so they definitely got a lot of good use. For $35, even if it craps out on you after a five years like they tended to last me, you're getting your moneys worth.

One thing I will say is that it seems to crisp up the rice if you leave it in for a long time on warm, unlike higher end units. It would make almost an outer shell. If you've ever had bibimbap it's kind of like that. To be honest, I miss that sometimes.

I have tried three cookers of this type and they can never keep the rice warm for more than a few hours without spoiling. The rice smells deadly after half a day.

Multicookers seal the moisture in. Better models have digital hold temperature selection. Two reasons why hot pots like this deal are obsolete. Regarding the safe handling of rice, uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. The spores can survive when rice is cooked. If rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores can grow into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. From a culinary perspective rice should be eaten freshly cooked. Leftovers should be refrigerated within the hour and discarded a day later.
