XRs are MAX, Atomics are MAX, Extremes are MAX, all DeWalt battery powered tools are MAX. MAX simply refers to them citing the battery voltage at full charge without a load whereas other companies use the operating voltage.

There's usually an asterisk following the MAX designation which refers to fine print along the lines of:
*Maximum initial battery voltage (measured without a workload) is 20 volts. Nominal voltage is 18.

Good deal - same that HD has had a couple times recently.

I bought one, then the next week they had a one day deal where they threw in the circular saw for total $199.
Returned and rebought Smilie

HD had a deal recently where they threw in the oscillating tool instead of the circular saw for total $199.

Just FYI

Not even the DeWalt site would list the battery AH! Home Depot (same price) says 1.3 AH

Can you share a link for the circular saw please? I couldn't find anything after a quick search. Thank you! Edit - I misread and thought you said the circular saw is still on instead of the oscillating tool

So this is not always true, and I only know this after telling someone what you said.
The XR and Max will actually pack more power, however do lack the slim body style of the atomic. Also the max will have the nicer battery most of the time.

Anyone that knows dewalt, why would someone select the XR over the atomic line both impact and drill?
Which models in each line line should we look for?

XR is more heavy duty and more powerful. There are some YouTube's on the XR compact driver and drill compared to the atomic. Bigger screws will go in faster with the XR same with drilling larger holes.
XR has a metal chuck on the drill.

I dunno. I bought a 2 tool XR set for $220 with 2 2 amp batteries. I'm happy with it.
I'm planning on keeping 10 years.

Would I have been happy with the atomic, maybe?
I did a lot of electrical work with my last drill and drilled 5/8 and 3/4 holes through 2x10s. Having a more powerful drill made a difference there.

Oops. They must have automatically added military discount to the displayed price.

DCF850 is best model. Brushless and more compact, almost as much power as the XR.
