This torch went on sale in the past couple days. Brickseek shows all stores in my area have stock and consistent price. Picked one up yesterday, it is a very large flashlight. Would have been nice if it was a rechargeable, but very bright and still worth it.

This is a decent flashlight but I'd only recommend it if you're gonna run it on rechargeables. 9 AA's are a S-ton of batteriesSmilie I run a few of the 6AA versions of this light.

I think the marketing meeting went like this -

Kobalt "this flashlight is indestructible"

**my dog enters product testing area**

Kobalt "well, umm, I guess it's virtually indestructible"

That's a lot of lumens, but alkaline batteries leak whenever you need your flashlight the most, and you don't want to fumble to install 9 batteries in the dark of a power outage.

Reminder that rechargeable NiMH batteries are not supposed to be used in airtight products. If it's submersible waterproof that counts. It's fine 95% of the time, the other 5% at the very least the rubber around the switch will turn into a balloon.

I do wonder if you can use 3AA and have it work as an emergency high power light or if it needs all 9 to turn on. I have the equivalent Utilitech flashlight bought years ago that only needs 3 because it's 3 sets in parallel. Which is actually not good for non-rechargeables.
