I love Hue and the color changing is cool for these but not sure how much I'd use it for overhead lights. I have some light strips and regular bulbs, but this would cost me a ton to change the dozens of recessed lights in my house!

I installed Lutron Caseta dimmer switches all over my house instead and they're awesome! They work without wireless and I have them all synced up to routines with the rest of my smart home.

This is the absolute best price I have seen on these.

I paid 55 and tax for each few months back.

This makes it 45 and tax for each unit

Although I pretty much stopped purchasing non-Thread enabled devices, I don't think I have seen thread-enabled recessed lights.

Does anyone know if these can be used outdoors? In a covered patio.

I just don't get the whole "hue" thing? Regular led trims with switchable color temp at Home Depot are $26 per 4-pack, is this really worth 7 times the price? I get it, you can switch colors on the fly but I never found myself wanting to have anything other than soft white (3000k). Even my accent lights that have remotes for switching temps and colors never get changed. To each his own I guess.
*Not knocking down the deal, seems like good find for those who can justify the price.
I think part of the premium hue devices carry is just due to software and compatibility. The stock app is pretty great but it seems that everything smart home that comes out is compatible with hue. Someone else more qualified might be able to share more :-)

I think mostly novelty. The only exception I can think of is using red light in the evening to promote more/better/faster sleep, there is some evidence it seems to help some people.

thank you, been waiting for these lights for a long time and this is a great price! in for 7 packs to complete my basement finish and kit out the rest of the cans in my house. I bought about a dozen of these as singles already, and can attest that they are awesome lights. I like these way better than the bare bulbs, can't wait to be able to scene out my entire house with these and get rid of the overly bright can lights.

Are these somehow better than throwing a BR30 into a can? Or just a different aesthetic?
This is way better than throwing a BR30 in a can light. I currently have both with half my basement in these, and half with the BR30 - there is no contest in terms of lighting diffusion and aesthetic. just ordered 7 packs to kit out all of the cans in my house, they are that good in my opinion.

Yes, I have had these on a covered patio all winter with no issues, works great outside and for holiday lighting in my experience.

Yes, you need the hub. Update: Actually, this version supports Bluetooth so you don't need the hub.

I like it. This price doesn't bother me, but all folks here have different price tolerance, discretionary spending budgets, weird sources of income (incl funny money, meme stocks). Some buy very expensive apartments with very expensive kitchens, paying a lot, but finding a SD discount is what some do. To each his/her own. For me, all my lights are Hue. I like it and look over the cost. I do worry sometimes that they are all points of weakness in my wireless network.

These things are too dim and unreliable. Would reset back to white.
For me the biggest let down was their brightness after you change the color

This is a fair comment for sure - they are much less bright than the standard lights. In my house though there are so many cans that they are 'too' bright and I rarely use them because of that. If you have a lot of closely spaced cans in a room they work great, but could see if you have a few in an area that needs a lot of light these could be a downgrade.

Question. I am planning on using flush mount lights for new construction, does it need a "can" to fit? Retrofit means to fit in existing can light, but can I install without a installed can? Newer flush mounts have springs that put pressure on drywall hole, instead of installing cans. Side note- the reason for no can is this is installed in an area where normal 6" can won't fit

Yeah for someone that doesn't use the color changing features, of course these are outrageously expensive. But for anyone that does use those features and wants to do it in a reliable way, Hue is completely worth the money. For me, being able to have the color temp adjust itself automatically throughout my entire house based on time of day is worth it. Let alone all the other options.

Good price. Lowe's has these in stock if you just need one or two. They have them because they just started carrying hue. I got mine there a month or so ago.

Can this be controlled by Kasa dimmer switch as well just for dimming purpose?
