It’s a 2242 inside, Surface Pro 8, 7+ or the Steam Deck etc use the even smaller 2230,, so no

You will be limited to data speeds consistent with the USB 3 port on your Surface Pro which is about 200Mb/s. Whether that is fast enough to support running a game from would depend on the game, game settings (frame rate, resolution, etc.). Would definitely be slower than running off internal SSD.

I bought this over a year ago. Not sure if it's me but the write speed is very slow on usb 3.0 port. Avg write is 100mb/sec. I might need to test it on a USB C port

The term Rugged is super subjective. It's like when something says "Military Grade" (same applies to the term genuine leather) it just means it meets the minimum quality requirements for what the military will accept, which is low for anything not "Required". Can anyone comment on drop protection from the rubber case? Looks decent.

it's your usb port... still, it should be faster than 100... you need usb 3.0 gen 2 port though to maximize the speed... usb c may not be gen 2, so double check!

I forgot to mention that I have a regular sata ssd in an enclosure and gets consistent 300mb/sec from the same USB 3.0 port. That is what gives me pause...

Weren't they about this price a year ago? I was hoping they'd keep coming down to around the $100/per TB price, like SSDs have. For the 1tb price, I'd rather get a SanDisk as Costco, but great price on the 2tb version.
