WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

I ordered one last time this deal went on and I received a like-new condition phone. Its a gamble whenever you are buying a refurb but most comments seem to be pointing towards getting a good-like new condition.
Not true. A lot people probably received screen replaced phone but just couldn't tell and they thought they receive good like new phone. For me, I couldn't tell it either until I brought it to Apple and found it out when warranty was denied. Apple guy then taught me how to identify fake screen, that's how I spotted my 2nd xr was also fake screen. My 3rd xr was ok, but just heavily used before.

Thanks, we need to turn UK VPN to activate phone inside USA? Did you do this too?? This is as per that ebay listing.
I didn't have to do anything with the VPN last April.

sounds like address is blacklisted.
If I save the TW sim cards and not activating it for future port in to another company then how can I activate that sim before porting it since the xr will be traded in? The sim is tied to the imei of that xr.

In my case, I was 0/3 in previous deal.

1st phone has white spot and sent to Apple. Apple denied the warranty due to 3rd party modification, and I think the screen is replaced. Still under warranty until 04/22, which is useless.

2nd phone, screen is cracked and screen is replaced too. Still under warranty until 03/22, which is useless too.

3rd phone, heavily used and out of warranty. Screen seems original. I can see bad scratch front and back.

Be very very careful and know you are taking your chance.
EEK! i guess i lucked out then.
Purchased reconditioned iphone 6s from them before. the screen was very yellowed and was bulged out as well. however, still had a few months of warranty left. i honestly didn't know, just thought it was a bad screen from apple since the rep from tw said all fixings had been done by authorized parties and even told me to take to apple for warranty services.

the tech at apple was very nice. he said this was a 3rd party job but since i still had warranty on the phone, they were going to save me the hassle and gave me a replacement. He went inside for 5 minutes and came out with a brand new, sealed Iphone 6s box. he said they were out of 6s warranty replacements so he just replaced mine with a new one. He said he couldn't give me the box because he had to put my phone in it as record for the replacement. He even asked if i wanted the cable, charger and earphones, all the accessories inside but i told him i still had the charger and cable at home and didn't use earphones. I just took the phone itself and left.

When I told my family later that day, they told me i should have taken the accessories as well because real apple accessories that come with the phones are expensive and are not the same as the ones i buy on ebay/amazon. Yeah, I was really naïve when it came to tech back then and no one told me about accessory qualities. Just changed from Samsung to Apple (6 plus was my first iPhone) and actually threw out all the Apple cables, chargers and earphones I had except ONE iPhone charging cable to use with my samsung charging brick.

goshhh feel so stupid thinking about that now. But I guess I lucked out with that tech.
Funny thing is I misplaced that phone and just found it last week (after several years LMAO ) and turned on for the first time.

All that winding story to say: be careful with tw phones, and tracfone ones too. For a new Apple iPhone user just came from Premium Samsung products, Apple customer service was awesome and very reassuring at the time. Seems like they are becoming more strict?

Good luck to all with the reconditioned phones!

Just go through the activation on their website, you don't need the XR on hand to activate the line. Just IMEI of the phone.

You pay the return shipping which is about $10-12. TW will only refund the phone, not the 1 month plan. You have to wait at least 30 days and no guaranteed they will process the refund.

If you receive a dud, you better just dump it to Best Buy or Apple trade in. In my case, i received a cracked screen phone, so I just file Paypal claim. I probably will be blacklisted, but it is ok since I won't buy another TW phone again.
Blacklisted on the shipping address or cc?

correct. But you don't want to waste the new number, transfer to xfinity for $100 GC per line (use to be $200 but ended yesterday).
And how many months of a plan do you have to purchase before they honor the gift card?

That's the same one I got too from prev TW xr deal but I think it will be here today and the seller said does not include any instructions so can you provide procedures on how to unlock.

The following is just my experience. I bought a refurbished iphone SE 2 last spring from Total Wireless for $120is The screen was replaced, and the glue signs were on edges. The screen was not responsive, I had to press hard to register a single touch. I initiated a non-fault return and shipped it back at my expense, then they charged me more then $70 restocking fee. I contacted them but no help. Horrible people and horrible company.

Yeah I returned it. The plan I had to buy could not be returned but I got credit for the phone. Overall it was a pretty disappointing transaction that left a sour taste. Pretty much prepaid my next months service and they were unable to replicate the deal I purchased the phone on for me.

I've been with totalwireless for four years now and service wise I've been pleased. Just not happy with their minimum quality of refurbs.

Yes of course. The Apple guy teaches me these.

1st, look at the 2 screws in the bottom. In this black phone, you shouldn't see any silver usage mark and should be black screws. Otherwise, phone is being opened.

2. Check True Tone, if no true tone, 100% fake. But these days, company can fake true tone now.

3. Turn the black color with the highest brightness. The black color should be solid black, no dot or yellow dot or red if it is original.

4. Turn to white color. Original is more yellow and soft, fake is pure white and bright. In the highest brightness setting with white color, the original won't hurt your eyes and is more comfortable. Fake one will hurt your eyes in 2 seconds, since it is very bright white.

5. Change to red earth built in wallpaper. The red should be very solid in color. The fake one is not as solid red and more transparent than original.

I got a refurb from totalwireless once and it was bad... If I had to grade it myself it would have to be a C.

The side aluminum frame was all scratched up and the battery health was 85%. Def. was not worth it...

Might be worth the risk for some, but personally I'd get a refurb of a newer phone or a new older model phone than this.
The device I received looks brand new . With 100% battery definitely YMMV !
