WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

How to get additional discount code? Because when I put in a different email they still sent me the same one.
Open a new incognito window in Chrome and enter a different email address when the pop-up appears.

even I bought some from last time deal, I would hold off this time

in the most recent few posts of last deal, phone ordered late came in very poor condition

I do not think TW could source another good batch of XR in such a short time

Wait for last batch trade-in phones reach their refurbish center, at some point you may buy the same one back LMAO

This is the one I bought, it's cheap but PIA to get working.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/RSIM13-R...3891078374

Instructions are horrible. I bought from the same seller a year ago and similar instructions. Likely Chinese seller and he/she used Google translate to translate the Chinese instructions to English, which didn't do a good job.

With this rsim you have to program both the ICCID and IMSI; the one last year I only had to program the ICCID. The listing has the site for the latest ICCID. Use the IMSI in the listing.

The problem I had is it kept bringing up the sim application pop-up after I programed the values. Eventually I got it to stop doing that after I logged into my apple id first, the invalid sim warning stopped appearing, at which point I was able to replace the RSIM with my t-mobile sim and it worked.

So I recommend
1) transfer data from your old iPhone to the XR (optional)
2) use the included TW sim (or another tracfone, TW, straight talk, page plus, etc sim card) to pass the activation screen; no need to activate serice
3) log into your Apple ID account
4) remove sim from step 2
5) plug in RSIM (there are 2 the seller shipped, a AT&T one and a nom-AT&T one, I used the non one for T-Mobile) and program the ICCID / IMSI
6) hopefully it will just play nice activate with the RSIM, if it pops up the sim programming again, just cancel out and hopefully it goes through; if the invalid sim pops up, just eject and re-insert to program it again.. If you make it through this and the iPhone just goes to the start screen without complaining about a sim issue I think you're good
7) replace the rsim with your carrier sim (in my case t-mobile)

While this may not correct steps it seemed to work for me. Maybe someone else can provide their tips

Note: I believe RSIM only works with GSM networks, so you won't be able to get it to work on CDMA network (Verizon).
I can confirm it works with verizon. Just used it on an at&t phone.

I can't think of any provider that requires an unlocked phone for trade in.

Anyone was able to buy it? I saw out of stock..
Just bought one at 4:40p central. Not sure I need it. Sitting on extra iPhone 13 and SE2 that we keep on VZW and AT&T MVNO's just to complement our TMo postpaid.

Hoping either the SE2 or the XR will trade in almost evenly to whatever SE3 comes out in a few months.
