WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

In ios 15.2, No battery message. True tone works fine. Face ID works fine.
That's what every 3rd party refurbish sellers have to do to their iPhones once Apple started putting all sort of things to discourage aftermarket parts, so I don't see anything new there…?

And thus the "Rights to Repair" movement, that Apple should not reject aftermarket parts for no reasons.

Those aren't "fake parts" by the way. They were not trying to pass off to customers as genuine.

Hey "The Right to Repair" bill for genuine Apple parts is almost available so I am hoping TW will actually have genuine oem Apple parts instead of these parts they used but……. it will of course cost a leg and an arm lol
Right to repairs doesn't mean "they must sell me OEM parts" I think, unless I were mistaken.

Apple is gearing up displays and battery for the latest iphones but not for older ones yet. So hopefully they will be cheap 🤞

Interesting … I hadn't followed that lately, but just googled and saw the article linked below. It looks like Apple might finally be starting to open up and let people actually work on their devices (or others') without beating them over the head with obstacles. It looks like that should help eliminate such issues as the battery and screen replacement headaches as they back off with the sabotage (assuming they actually become more open to 3rd-party manufacturers as well … not sure how much they're going to give at first, there are a lot of possibilities)

https://www.engadget.com/apple-us...47862.html

"The company said that repair options would initially focus on commonly-repaired modules in the iPhone 12 and 13, like the screen, battery and cameras, but it says that more options will come in the following year. We don't know if Apple will ever give right-to-repair activists everything they want. It seems unlikely that Apple will make an iPhone where you can just pop it open and drop a new battery in, like the phones of old."

I wonder how they are reprogramming Face ID since I thought only Apple can reprogram the Face ID component.

Here you go. Very interesting, now it shows warranty is expired. It was until 04/2022 just before i submitted to Apple. I think Apple denied warranty in the system already.

Model: iPhone XR
IMEI: 35683011699xxx
Activation Status: Activated
Warranty Status: Out Of Warranty
Telephone Technical Support: Expired
Repairs and Service Coverage: Expired
AppleCare Eligible: No
Valid Purchase Date: Yes

Find My iPhone: OFF
GSMA Blacklist Status: Clean
Dude same thing happened to an old surface pro that had a broken usb port even though I sent it in for warranty repair on the display they deleted the leftover warranty because of the usb port was from physical damage lol.

Thanks for sharing. Re: unlocking

I am out of town for another two weeks. Will the phones appear as actived once they arrive or does someone have to initiate the activation process? Any chance to activate it from afar?

Hoping to start the two month count for unlocking as early as possible. Thanks!
someone has to open the package and give you the imei number and the sim number and then you can go online and activate the device ! the imei and sim number are the only things you need to activate iirc.

You only need the IMEI, which they give you in the shipping email. There should be an activate button. If you click on it, it will bring you to the activation page with the IMEI of the phone filled in.

Ok. That's to your standard, and I respect that. To me, this phone worths $0. It's my fault with unrealistic expectation. Now I know. It is just me don't want any non oem parts. I learned my lesson.

It can tell if the display is not the original. It may not show you a warning, but true tone won't work. What they are doing is reprogramming the screens so it thinks that the replacement screen is original.

Non oem screen has no True Tone and no Face ID. Repairer can still code the serial numbers back on non original parts, so iOS will think it is oem original parts and gives you True Tone. Until Apple finds out and resets everything back, then messages will show.

When I receive mine this Friday, I will try to schedule an appointment with Apple Support to check if any of the parts have been replaced with generic parts, and dispute the charge with my credit card if generic parts are found (i.e. not sure if the purchase protection will apply since it's a refurb.)

Similar to you, I am hoping to use this as my 24-7 music streaming device, and to keep my iPhone 13 Pro Max's battery and screen pristine a bit longer. 😎

Most likely the battery has been replaced. Why would anyone expect the almost 1 year old phone still has 100% battery health. Just impossible.

Has any one tried refuse the UPS delivery? Will they charge a restock fee, or they will not refund the $25 plan card anyway?

The incidents mentioned above that people receive phones with fake parts are horrible.

You can look up your apple coverage now with the email. In the total wireless email there is a activate link. You click on that and it gives the phone serial. I checked and mine expires September 22. 90 day already expired. I think I will do a trade in to apple for $200
