WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

Since the Repairs and Service Expiration Date doesn't match the number of days until Repairs and Service Expires, I plugged the IMEI into Apple's Coverage Checker [apple.com]. That showed me that the number of days is the correct information.
Interesting. Just got my ship notice and IMEI and mine had the exact same date info. And the Apple checker also said 264 days, like yours. I'll paste my info below. Mine also showed 264 days before warranty expire (even though warranty may not actually be active since it's a refurb.)

If you use it as a trade in and they don't approve because the unit has been modified enough to make it not eligible- Not correct. I received XR in last deal with 100% battery and looked new. I traded in BestBuy for S21 and rep checked the physical condition of the device. No one will turn on the device to check. They will check the device IMEI from i on Home Screen itself and they will move on their system to complete the trade in.
Thing is just to clarify. Trade in deals happen at multiple places, the issue would most likely only be with Apple Direct Trade in via Apple store or Apple Online, all best buy , tmo , sprint Verizon trade in are usually handled by TPA like Hyla Mobile etc and they don't shit care about OEM or non OeM parts..so it could be rejected with Apple but most likely no issue trading for bby or carrier deals.... 🤞

Circling back to this because I realized an error in my logic. IMEICheck.com displays dates in the more logical DD-MM-YYYY format rather than MM-DD-YYY format. So while I was reading the expiration date as April 10, it's actually October 4 which matches the status on Apple's site.

What does this test mean?

On the second picture (webkit Logo), when I click on the "Display P3" button, the picture changes to what it should be (logo overlaid by red) but the text underneath still reads "currently showing: sRGB". I see the same thing happening on my iphone 12Pro (bought new at ATT). All the other samples work fine (picture and the text underneath changes).

Same issue on my PC as well. Website error?
I think it doesn't matter

You may not need to, but I can't think of any reason to avoid activating it. It doesn't sound like the TW SIM is very much use without the phone. And there is debate about it, but some say the phone will unlock 60 days after activation, even if not a current TW user. So if you activate the phone and then use the RSIM, you might end up with a legit unlocked phone after 60 days, even if using RSIM unlock in the meantime. That would mean you'd never need to worry about RSIM again if you wipe the phone or sell it, etc.

Others chime in if I'm missing something here … it just seems like there's potential upside and no real downside to activating on TW first. Just because you activate the TW SIM doesn't mean you need to use it after that.
I agree with you, I'm planning in activating 1st with TW then try the RSIM process to eventually use it on T-Mobile either now or in 60 days.

Correct me if I'm wrong but apple only inspected parts for repair not for trade in. At least in store.
It totally depends on the rep you get. It's rare that a rep at apple will check in detail the device you are trading in. Again, it depends on the rep that you get. In past threads, a very few mentioned that they were rejected due to aftermarket screens.

I remember reading one guy taking in a brand new XR from total wireless and the apple rep rejected it because it was too new Lol

Just a note on the Face ID thing. I don't think anyone has received one from TW where it didn't work. Just a report of one where Face ID stopped working after it was brought to Apple support and they flagged it as an aftermarket part and undid the refurb programming fix.

Even if the warranty was longer, I wouldn't assume that Apple would honor it given that Apple basically terminated the warranty of the guy above once they found out that the iphone already had aftermarket parts in it.

Why? The Apple warranty means nothing. If what folks are saying is true about Apple rejecting repairs if the phone has replacement parts, then almost all (except the new ones) have a new battery. Everyone's phone came with a battery that had 100% capacity. No way that's possible if the battery wasn't replaced.

EDIT: Plus, I've read that TW will not refund the SIM card if you return and expect you to pay return shipping. If the phone looks and works good, you are better off turning it in for a BB gift card.

Yep … nobody should assume the Apple warranty is valid. These are reconditioned phones and the Apple warranty doesn't apply if any actual reconditioning has been done. Some may get lucky and Apple may fix it in the event of problems, but not something anybody should be counting on.
