WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

What's the sharpie for? To color over the glue fibers?
That I could not get to with thin plastic wedge. It was barely noticeable, but I just did it.

My orders (3) delivered:

1 has a slight warmer tint compared to the other 2, very noticeable when True Tone is on. It's constructed differently compared to the other 2 once I compare them under flashlight. But other than that all 3 seem to work very OK, and they all look pristine shape.

What are you going to do with the one with the inferior screen? Trade it in?

Last two XR came in today. One definitely has an inferior aftermarket screen that has a purple tint. 1/7 isn't bad I guess.

I had an issue on an iPhone 8 that I suspect had an aftermarket screen years ago and had a yellowish tint. Check out the section about "Change colour tint" from the link below. I was able to use those settings to tweak it to be much better. Play around with the Hue / Intensity sliders. It helps to have another iPhone next to it at the same settings screen and same brightness levels for comparison. I think I also turned True Tone off, but can't remember for sure.

This might sound dumb but how do I pay for the second month of service? Do I sign up for auto refill? Do they send me a text/email when my "bill is due"?

Can you elaborate on the "different construction" with more specifics and maybe capture it in a couple of pics? It would be great to be able to make a more definitive determination as far as the screen replacement.

My XR came in today and i compared it to my spare XR (i bought from apple ages ago).

Screen has tru-tone and displays SRGB content identically. Colors and quality looks 100% the same as my 100% genuine XR. No glue fibres around the edges or anything, i can see the frame as 1 or 2 light marks (not scratches though), that's the only sign of use. Screws down the bottom look new.

That said, what leads me to think it has an aftermarket screen is that it does not feel like it has an oleophobic coating (or at least as good a one) as the original XR. Sometimes there feels like a little bit more friction (same finger, same action).

Thats the only thing that might give it away. Im updating to iOS 15.2 to see if i will get an aftermarket part warning.

Never realized that existed, very nice. I got it very close to the other screens with this.

Ok just wanted to comment on the latest. If your thinking about selling for cash at GameStop just for quick sale, you might need to go to more than one GameStop.
Went to first one and manager said they only do visa gift card, which you can't get cash out of. Went to the second one, no flack got cold hard cash. Just PSA.

It's my understanding that the coating rubs off eventually. And not all of us uses screen protector.

It's month to month, no commitment. Go to Total Wireless website, plenty of info.

Quick sale for how much? Other is less than "Verizon", but do they know/check?

I told the clerk "tracphone, which is Verizon" and he put it as Verizon for 180. So it's probably YMMV.

Edit: I meant to add and the register machine accepted it.
