WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

Why did you take your phone to Apple store? To check if it has genuine part? I m planning take my phone to Apple store for trade in. I wonder if it comes with replaced parts then will they reset the part setting just like yours and deny the trade in.
As I explained that in my older post. The xr i received has a white dot about a sesame size in the middle of screen. I saw there is still warranty left on the phone, so i went to Apple without thinking too much. The phone was like new and battery 100% just like most people received. Apple did onsite testing and didn't find anything. But when they sent my phone to their repair center (not the onsite repair), they found it out and erased everything. That's why my face id stopped working, true tone disappear and batter msg appears. As I mentioned in my previous post, I checked the 3utools report before and after, the serial number for battery and screen changed after Apple erased it.

Makes sense. My phone appeared pristine but the screen was dimmer than my brand new XR so was an aftermarket screen. Then I tested the battery and drains faster then the genuine XR so likely also replaced. Get these only for trade in. Otherwise spend more and get the iPhone 11 deal.

If I use this on the phone, I can throw my Tmobile sim in it.

Will it effect its 60day official unlock from Total Wireless?

Will it charge at all? If battery is empty it might take a while to even register.

That sucks. I hear returns can be kind of a pain, but haven't tried. Also, you've probably tried already, but make sure you plug it into a known good power supply and cable to let it charge for a few hours to make sure it wasn't just a drained battery from being left on after refurb or something. Also, while plugged in, try hitting power up, then power down (each quickly) and then hold the power button down and see if it might turn on. That can sometimes help if it got stuck shutting down wrong.

Thank you for sharing. I used it before, unlocked easily, however, once factory reset, it was locked again. The same turbo sim won't unlock the same phone again. You have to purchase another one to unlock it.

Activate the phone. Use the red insert, the sim is in the $25 which has $25 pre loaded. You just have to activate it. In the past they gave $25 scratch off cards. People were not activating the lines and they got smarter with it and loaded it in the sim
Quote from kyden99 :
It's linked to the sim. They don't do the card anymore.

We're talking about Total Wireless phones though, right!? You can't just throw a TMo sim in it without unlocking it in some fashion, can you?

Every single person on this thread has reported 100% battery health. This can only mean that they changed batteries for refurbishing.

All my used iPhones have less than 100% battery life.

Ok, for everyone that still has a lot questions. Here is another thing I can share. I attached the pictures of the 3utools report Before i took the XR to Apple and the report After I got the phone back from Apple. You can see for sure the battery serial number has changed and screen number is changed since Apple reset it back. After I got the phone back, I am getting Face ID not working message, True Tone not working and Battery message. So, use it as your own risk and just draw your own conclusion.
Thanks for posting this. It would be common sense at this point to expect the battery to have been replaced? How else would the battery be at 100% capacity on a phone that's more than 2 months old? Of course the battery was replaced, likely on all but the brand new phones.

Or can be a brand new phone too.

Mine looked new and also came with seemingly original clear plastic film on screen. Not sure everyone's came like that.
