Man even Best Buy GC have been compromised before. It seems it's safest to not keep in the $ locked in Gc either sell it or use it to buy something then and there itself or very soon. Ages ago I had this my Sbux GC balance was stolen by hackers like zeroed out luckily SB helped me, I've heard lowes and Bb and other GC s also get hacked like somehow they figure out the codes… ymmv..
Thats crazy. I didn't realize how widespread of an issue this was.

Yes you don't till you get hit and google it and it has happened to others. I don't think lowes and Bestbuu employees are involved I think the hackers somehow know or compromise the system used to generate these codes. As the cards have the sticker to reveal the code like pIn so not possible for them to do it my two cents…

Those scratch-off stickers aren't anything to be depended on. On most, they are actually just clear stickers with a film on top. You don't actually need to scratch them off, but they can also simply be raised up with a knife or razor blade and stuck right back down. Below are a few pics of a random restaurant gift card I have with the sticker peeled back and then stuck back down.

I remember a problem with Cricket refills at retail stores a few years back. People would get the numbers from a stack in the store and keep trying, until someone activated and didn't redeem right away.

I always put them on my account within minutes of purchase, just for that reason.

Assuming there's no definitive news on the unlock policy, and if your first month is expiring within the next couple of days, what's the plan? Add another month? If we don't do that and find out it is necessary say in about a week, how difficult is it to add another month at that time and retain the same phone #?

Yeah, I was rather shocked how easy it was when I first heard and had to try it. I remember some sort of news report around the holidays that people were grabbing inactivated gift cards from big box store shelves (low security, since they had no value until activated) snapping pics of the account numbers and pin and then sticking them back on the shelves hoping people would buy and activate them. They'd then check the numbers periodically and drain them if they saw a balance. That was several years ago and I think some cards have made it harder to see the numbers with packaging, etc, but probably depends on the places and particular cards.

There is a target Deal which enables you to get these $25 cards for $20 if you have a target red debit card. I think it is technically $40 for $50 worth of card bought . I would take this option also to get the reward loyalty points worth $80 itself

So for BB physical gc is it really safe to redeem it into bb account I mean hackers can find out the gc numbers too but I guess they dont know the PIN ?

The Target deal seems to be $5 off $50. No discount for $25 (other than the 5% from using the Redcard, it appears).

Thanks for the note about loyalty points. Can you elaborate on how that works? Do I get the $80 loyalty points by adding another month? If so, can I use those points to buy another phone in the future or can it only be applied to phone plans?

Yes that is what I had noted it's technically $42.5 for $50 worth services( 2*25). The $80 is for 8000 points which you get when you join rewards and use the referral which can be redeemed after 60 days until then it's pending. If anyone is willing to use the phone it's a good option. If it's just a trade in then it does not matter getting these points

The referral points don't vest until the 61st day. At that point, you can redeem them for service on a different line (if you have one). You could also get a phone discount, but would only have enough points for $50 off.

Here is what I am doing on Tracfone: I activated a new iPhone on a new account. I was offered basic plans during activation, so selected the 90 day/$19.99 plan with autorenew for $17.99 + tax. I then joined rewards with a referral and have 8,000 points pending. In 61 days, the points to vest and the phone will unlock. I will redeem the points for service on a different line, then port out the number before the autorenewal.

Wondering if anyone is in a situation as this:

So I bought a cheap iPhone SE 2nd gen refurb when they were $100.
I misplaced that SIM card but I activated using the serial number of the SE.
it shows up in my account but since I don't have the sim, the status is: activation in progress

I activated it hoping it would start the 60 day timer but it seems it won't 'register' until I find that SIM card that came with the phone.

edit: refreshed just now and it no longer has the activation in progress. they even gave me a phone number

let's see if it unlocks in 60 days

Could try telling support you lost sim & see if they would let you rebrand a $1 sim or send a replacement sim?
I bought a refurb iPhone SE last yr without a sim & activated it on TF with a BYOP sim. Unlocking dept says it registered IMEI & shows it should be unlocked in April - didn't think it would work that way so not sure, but possibly worth trying.

Got my iPhone xr last week. Activated the sim and have been using it alongside my Android while waiting for my unlock sim.

I usually use a 3gb redpocket plan and use it all by day 25.

Somehow I managed to use the whole 1gb allowance in less than a day. However even though I'm now supposedly using 2g it's still working just as good as before it ran out.
