I legit put the card in to activate the plan/phone made a few test calls and then put it back in the box and pulled the sim out, I then took it out a day or 2 ago and then I get that message saying to put the sim card back into the phone that was activated which was the same XR. I called them up today and they said it must of been swapped to another phone so now I have to buy a new sim card kit to transfer it according to one rep I just wonder if this restarts the 60 days for unlock lol
Total wireless system setup is pretty weird.
I activated original phone (XR) with original sim. Got no data so I swap to another unlock phone I had. No data so I swap to another unlock phone (Moto). After 2 days finally figure out I get no data (or extremely slow data) in my home during daytime. I only get data during off-peak hours (late night).
I now have the sim back in the original phone XR. Calls works. Data works during off peak hours at my home at least. But according to the website and TW chat the sim is actually tied to my Moto phone now. They have no idea why it works with the XR currently as their system shows it will only work with the Moto as the Moto and sim are bind together.
They also have no idea what will happen to the unlock status of my XR.

That is odd. You can't really count on their reps for any kind of accurate info. I'd say its probably best to just keep the SIM in the XR now and hope that it automatically flips back to it in their system after a while and since it was originally activated on it, you might be OK. Use it at least occasionally and maybe even call again after a week or so and see if they show it linked to the XR again. Also, if you want to get data working, you might try enabling "roaming" under the cellular settings. That can sometimes help. I think it's set to "off" by default, but you should be able to enable it if you're not getting a good connection. Forcing it into 3G mode instead of LTE can also get things going sometimes, but obviously at much reduced speeds. Below are the TW terms regarding roaming …

"Roaming
It is possible that under certain circumstances your phone may roam if you are outside of your network coverage area and within the United States. Roaming occurs when a subscriber of one wireless service provider uses the facilities of another wireless service provider. Although there are no additional charges for using the Service while roaming domestically, Total Wireless does not guarantee your ability to roam nor the availability and/or the quality of Service. Domestic roaming may be discontinued or changed at any time without notice. Due to Carrier restrictions, Total Wireless reserves the right to terminate the Service of any customer whose roaming usage exceeds 50% of their total usage in any three (3) Plan cycles within a 12 month period. International roaming is not offered by Total Wireless and is strictly prohibited."

Ok, so I took a sim card that was activated from one of my XR's that I traded in the one with the DIM screen to be exact.

I have it in my Simple Mobile SE2020, let's see how long it takes for me to get the "We have a detected that this is not the same phone originally activated and used for your wireless service in order to restore your service you need to put the sim card into the phone used when you activated the service" message to appear so far it seems to be working fine.

If I don't get this message I wonder if the SE2020 from Simple Mobile will auto unlock after 60 days? That would be wild if it does.

I've also activated my two Total Wireless iPhone 12 minis I bought over Black Friday, a Red and Black 64gb, finally opened the package to activate it. Was thinking to trade them in at some point but the XR's took that place since I acquired them at a lower cost and traded quite well during BB/Tmo's 13 promo.

I've got 5 phones from Total Wireless waiting to be unlocked, and 1 from Simple Mobile if that works.

It's very much YMMV.
Some people never get the message. Was reported on TF/TW Howard Forums after VZ took over and still isn't very widespread yet.

Since system seems to be relinking sim to IMEI of phone it's moved to instead of the original it's likely to affect unlock in some way, hope it didn't mess up your XR's.

Service is over already. Even towards the end I can see the Moto phone imei tied to their system but I never actually use that phone but for that one time to test service. I went back to using the iPhone XR for the rest of the service month.
The problem was not the setting. Problem was depriortization. My home area is just not great with Verizon MVNO. It only works during off hours. When moving around town I can see data does work at some areas.

of coz, system would "link" IMEI to sim since the system would use IMEI to populate the phone you are using and display some image on the website, a lot of carriers do the same.

It does not necessarily mean that TW is adding that IMEI to the "unlock database" even when TW sees a new IMEI associated with that sim.

I think TW just adds the IMEI to "unlock database" when activation, that is the reason why IMEI is needed (even auto populated) when activating the sim card using the link from Email

Just saying that it's been reported (for the past few months) that something is different & sims are being automatically linked/reprogrammed to each phone just by putting active sim inside & turning on phone, it didn't work that way before VZ took over.
We don't know what else VZ might have changed along with the new unlock policy, just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

I could see it being a de prioritization thing if it happened after you burned through your allocated data, but it's really odd that it would happen like that from the moment you activated. The plans included a GB of fast data, so I wouldn't think it would get bumped until that had been used at least. Weird at any rate.

It's not burning through the data. I have order a few phones for TW and they are have the same problem
I have the same problem with Visible service too. Can only use data during off peak hours. Visible is Verizon same as TW.
It is definitely not good with Verizon MVNO in my area. Verizon itself works great as I have friends that uses them in my home no problem.

All MVNOs are deprioritized.

That's throttling/capping. You're slow even if priority number 1.

Is it necessary to renew service for the 2nd month in order to get unlocked after 60 days?

Only if you're on By the Gig, 1GB $15 per month.

So they have incentive to make you burn your monthly allotment ASAP.
