Tempting but I don't have a need right now. Had good luck with a BB refurb in the past. Practically a new drive. YMMV.

The refurbished 980 Pro Gen4 2tb for $265 is very tempting.

bought the 980 1TB. Come with no orignal packaging. drive powered on for 2 hrs and 1TB write. Seems the drive is almost new and BB did a full drive erase.

How do you check for drive information?

Interesting. I bought two of the 980 1TBs and they both came with original packaging (though covered with annoying BestBuy-applied stickers). Both tested with Samsung software and performed well. Registered the serial numbers with Samsung for warranty purposes.

I'm generally a fan of buying open box items from BestBuy. Often great savings and terrific, easy return policy.

Got a QVO from Amazon for $70 that can still be returned - swap it out for the EVO for $70? Enough of a difference to matter (casual use)?

Agreed. I would not purchase a used hard drive these days. Way too much risk for too little savings.

many different ways to do this, probably the simplest and cheapest way on Windows is to use CrystalDiskInfo

Any recommendations for a cheap case to convert this to an external storage device?

The 1TB 860 EVO SATA drive seems to be at a higher price compared to its updated version 870 EVO... interesting! Has anyone had experience with whether the 860 is better than the 870 by any means to justify the higher price (although they are refurbished)?😄
