Reasons: More than double the storage and a gasket to keep out dust/moisture. Purchased for $13 in store, I keep it bungee corded in the bed of my truck and use it to stow misc items.
The Plano will have thicker walls for more durability, but I'm not tossing this item around. It stays put. I hope this helps anyone!

The description doesn't mention, so probably no. However I searched through the Question/Answer area and saw three people who used them outside. I don't know how long they owned them though.

I recall looking at their olive green totes a couple of years ago and decided not to buy because they were very flimsy and the interior had a bunch of supports taking up storage space.
It also tapers/gets thinner towards the bottom, and as you can see in photos the corners and edges are pretty rounded. Best to see it in person though.
Also, no one asked yet but this model doesn't come with a rubber gasket in the lid, but there's a groove that can probably be caulked or lined with something. HD used to sell the gasketed model too but I haven't seen them since 2018 or 2019 and they were at least $10 more.
This ungasketed model's main bin flexes fairly easily with the lid off (especially the long flat side), but when lid is locked on it is pretty stiff. IIRC the gasketed model was more rigid even with the lid off.
*I just realized I was remembering the 109 qt models, I haven't looked at the 68qt.
