Dented cans are fine. They cannot cause food poisoning.
An open can, yes. Dented doesnt mean open.
Some people are just ridiculous.

I remember being taught this in health class both in middle school, high school, and again in college... a quick google confirms the same information that has been taught in likely most public schools and health programs for a good long while now (I graduated high school almost 30 years ago if it helps understand how long this stuff has been in curriculum).

Now if this information is outdated by new research I would be curious to see it!

*Edit* (sorry to clarify - when I said being taught this - I meant that dented cans can create food poisoning concerns)

cheaper option:

spend $1 and buy a can of refried beans (15 oz)
add in some pico, or salsa, or sriracha...whatever you have on hand

microwave to hear

bean dip - tastes better and cheaper than the frito's bean dip

ordered these a couple of days ago. although they arrived in a very heavy duty cardboard box container inside a white shipping bag, each can was dented. got a replacement, same thing, each can dented inside heavy duty shipping box. requested a refund. seemed to be 'seconds'.
