It is a good enclosure. It gets hot with a few minutes of usage. Also, you cannot use Samsung Magician for cloning because of the Sabrent interface. They provided some Acronis WD software which didn't work for my 970 evo plus, so I used Macrium 8 for cloning. Fyi..
Which one works with Samsung utility, any idea?

No. Decent 1TB nvme drives are like $90 - $110. Plus the enclosure. But your transfer speed would be something like 1.6gbps if I did napkin math right.
T7 has a theoretical 1050mbps on it bottlenecked by the drive inside I believe. Under $70 prob not. But I was able to get about 600 mbps with the 970 evo plus and this enclosure

Not on M2 drives. M2 enclosure requires a chipset to work unlike traditional 2.5 SATA ssds, which I believe is what kind of prevents Samsung's magician software from identifying the drive as a Samsung drive. It displays as a Sabrent interface. After cloning, once you swap the internal drive , you can start using the magician which defeats the whole purpose. I'm not sure why Samsung wants to restrict cloning to their drives. You can use other free cloning software like Acronis or Macrium. Thx

Thank you for the info. Does anyone know whether this M.2 enclosure support smartmontool (a.k.a. smartctl) to get the S.M.A.R.T. data?

That's pretty slow for the 970 evo plus. This enclosure supposedly can do ~1000MBps over teh USB-c 3.2 Gen 2 interface just like the Samsung T7. Does your PC support USB 3.2 gen 2 or gen1?

Same. I wanted to run Crucial Storage Executive to upgrade firmware, etc but I doesn't read the drive from the enclosure. Support says the drive needs to be installed on the motherboard for the software to recognize it. I haven't tried the ISO boot method for upgrading firmware yet.

For what it's worth, I've had a distinct impression that both "Store4PC" and "SBT OUTLET" sellers on amazon are in fact Sabrent, but I don't know that for a fact.

11,591 store reviews on Amazon, 69 store reviews on Walmart for the seller Flash Deals Inc/ Bazarganfard, Inc.

Maybe the Walmart seller is ok, but for 3$ I will stick with who I know.

Price went up to 20 bucks on Walmart anyways. Rather get it delivered from Amazon for 2 bucks more. Much better security if something goes wrong.

I have this enclosure and it is useless unless you plan to use few minutes and then Give rest and then use it again ( I tried copy of 500gb and after 15 minutes , it is so hot that you can't even touch and then it shuts down. I tried with intel and Samsung 970 evo plus. The built in heating pad is also useless. If the plan is simple read and wrote and not a constant use , this may be fine. I speed I got is not move than 900mbps with the thunderbolt connection. So I have plans to return this.

Are these enclosures stable? Frequently I see random disconnects and such whenever I look at the reviews. Doesn't matter which controller chip is inside, there's random disconnections from the nvme drives, where direct connection to MB doesn't have the issue. Anyone experience the issues with these portable enclosures?
I have two of these and they've been very stable with several hours of active usage, but I haven't tested for 24/7 usage. I highly suggest updating the firmware right away to help fix any issues.

You can find the update firmware for the chipset here:
https://www.sabrent.com/download/ec-snve/

There are newer chipset firmware not from Sabrent, but I haven't tested those out yet. There is a thread on Anandtech forums about various chipsets version firmware and where to download them. It's a long thread, but it gives a lot of details about the RTL9210 chipset and the fixes the firmware versions have made.

Hope this helps!

Amazon 3rd party seller is better than Walmart 3rd party seller. Amazon has better and wider return locations and options. Walmart, 1. either you can't return at a Walmart and have to deal with the 3rd party seller direct or 2. you can return at Walmart but have to return in store. So Amazon wins outright.

For those considering this enclosure, 3rd party seller is "store4pc". For those considering a Sabrent nvme m.2, 3rd party seller is "store4memory". Both list some home address which I find "shady". I don't think either these sellers are Sabrent. Which means after Amazon return period, I am not sure if there is or is not any warranty from Sabrent. For the enclosure, it's not as much of a big deal considering the price. For the nvme m.2, I wouldn't risk it myself. Just a FYI.
