I'm a bit of a fitness buff, so a word of warning- ProForm as a rule sells low-end equipment. If you're looking for something to get by with 1-2 times a week use (or something to hang your clothes on LOL) it will be fine, but expect creeks, squeaks, and shoddy construction. If you can get into ProForm's PRO line the construction is a lot better and the equipment will last a lot longer.

These are great prices, but don't want people to get something and be disappointed about having to repair/replace things after a year or two of use.

Yeah, Proform fell into the same trap as everyone else- they started focusing on the electronics of their products instead of the mechanics. In '99 they were still focusing on motors, belts, durability, etc. In 2022 they have to focus on screens, sensors, Bluetooth, and whatever else today's generation expects. They would have to essentially double the price if they added all of this AND kept up the quality of mechanical components (which is what they did on their Pro line). Instead they lowered the quality of the plastics, motors, belts, etc so they could stay in the same price range.

I'm an old school ProForm user. I have a ProForm treadmill in my basement I've had since 1999. That's right, 1999 lol. I run on it regularly and have been doing so since I got it. Still on the original belt, original motor, original deck. The only thing wrong is the "beep" sound it should make when you power it up or down recently stopped working. It is loud these days but it's nearly 23 years old. Perhaps they made better quality equipment back then but I've been very happy with mine

This or the NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill for $550?

I suspect you're right and it's a shame really. Something like this should be made well and built to last!

Is this not the general positioning of ProForm's consumer line? The idea being NordicTrack can offer less for more (getting by on branding), whereas ProForm has to try and wow with electronics. About the most material difference is that the NordicTrack has a wider running area at 22", but otherwise both seem like very comparable, entry-level treadmills.

This seems like the option I've been waiting for to avoid a Craigslist nightmares, and without finding a time machine for the $450 BF deal. I definitely appreciate some of the comments in the thread that highlight this as a lightweight (read, soon to be noisy/rickety) consumer treadmill but I'm also a pretty lightweight treadmill user. I'm hopeful that if I can at least get a solid useful life within the warranty period I'll be ahead of troubleshooting some of the seemingly still inflated prices on the secondary market.

This treadmill works without iFit, however do note that this particular model lacks any kind of built in programs. As such, without iFit this provides a very basic treadmill experience (which was fine for me, but each user might have different priorities).

This could also describe almost every automaker over the same time period. Thankfully the passive safety equipment is keeping up with the distractions that cause the crash in the first place Wink

We still have a working Schwinn from 2004 that needs a new belt thanks to my lack of maintenance. When I was shopping, the prevailing advice was that folding mechanisms almost always meant cheaper components everywhere else, and generally a less solid feel. You really have to need the space savings to justify it, IMO. We occasionally store boxes on our treadmill deck when it's not in use, so you can have your cake and eat it, too. The you can get your lazy cake-eating self on the treadmill.

Still remains true, at the very least as far as the default motors are concerned. However, I'd also point out that there's an overall weight consideration as well as the space-saving functionality. Though most people aren't moving these around after installation, just getting them up or down stairs quickly progresses from a two-person job to a three-person job for some of the larger treadmills (and their larger motors) even when disassembled.

That cake can be VERY heavy.

Lube the belt periodically (which I never did) and pay attention to the belt remaining centered on the deck. Mine went about an inch over to one side and eventually made contact with the edge guides. I never noticed because I usually run at night or in low lighting, plus with headphones and music I never noticed the sound…just the smell!

Now I have exposed metal wires at the edge, kind of like a worn tire. But the thing just keeps on trucking…
