Just a plug adapter for those wondering, has to be used on an appliance that takes universal voltage. That said the "normal" price on these travel accessories is way inflated

Basically, don't bring anything with a motor in it like hair dryers when traveling. Those are the gadgets that tend not to be dual voltage as opposed to battery powered electronics. Voltage converters (vs adapters) are bulky, cumbersome, and not worth it IMO from having lived in the UK with my US electronics. Literally had things explode before.

No experience with this specific one, but the issue I have occasionally had with these types of universal, multi-dongle adapters, is keeping them in the socket. By the time the original plug/PS is going into the U.S. module, which is then connected to country adapter, it is sticking out from the wall quite a bit and tends to fall out.

I prefer to just have a couple solid, single use adapter.

Someone in this thread mentioned voltage adapters. As someone who has moved from the UK to US, I do not recommend voltage adapters. If the appliance you want to bring is designed to heat anything up, the size of the voltage adapter will be pretty big and all the ones we have tried didn't work at all. I know that there are some brands of hair straighteners and hairdryers that will work on pretty much any voltage so that may be a better investment. You could also buy a travel hairdryer in the UK for less than $10 in Tesco so that is probably a better solution if you can't borrow one.

Most small electronics will use something called a switching power supply so it will run on 120/230V. Even things as big as laptop bricks are almost always switching adapters nowadays (it will list the two voltages on the adapter if it is). You just plug your US adapter into a device like the one in this slickdeal and you are good to go.

From my experience, you probably don't need a voltage adapter. If you do need one, it probably won't work on the high-wattage device you want to use it for (and you won't know that until you land in the other country). I can't comment on stuff like CPAP machines etc. as I have never used one, but for stuff with basic heating elements, I would steer clear.

At the moment I am using a little travel adapter from RAVPower that has Eur/UK/Aus/US prongs, 2 standard US outlets on the sides, a USB C PD output and a USB A. It worked really well this Christmas in the UK and is very lightweight.

Haha, I have had the same experience. I Have used duct tape to keep plugs in the wall and propped up cords with books. Eventually I bought an extension cord with 4 outlets and 2 usb slots--that will work on worldwide voltages. The only drawback is that this is a bit heavier than a simple outlet adapter.

It is actually Aukey not Ravpower. I think I got it from a deal on here for $15 last year. The PD is only 18W but if you need more juice you can just plug a bigger power brick into the outlets on the side. Even the 65W GaN ones are pretty heavy so I'm fine with it being lighter weight with only 18W.
