Lacking content definitely isn't an issue.

No you didn't. You just came here to bag on Matrix which has zero to do with HBO Max.

Sadly, no. This is for the monthly plan and is billed monthly at the discounted rate.

Is there a way to lock in this price for when the current promo 50% off rate ends?

HBO Max [hbomax.com] has 20% off per month for up to 12 months of either HBO Max Plan.
  • With Ads - $7.99/month for up to 12 months
  • Ad-Free - $11.99/month for up to 12 months
Offer ends January 25.
Just to note for those that have AT&T fiber for ISP that the gigabit plan includes HBO Max for free. I have no idea if this is targeted by area but can confirm that this is offered in the downtown Fort Worth, TX area. I also think this will likely go away once AT&T divests the abominations known as DirecTV and WarnerMedia.

This is true but it was only free for one year for me.

I had this service for a few months and found it lacking content. Yes, there's some recent movies out now but I'll wait until there's a significant backlog of shows/movies I can watch readily. Having to pay a monthly fee to watch something new every 2-3 months wasn't worth it

Is there any difference in content in the ad-free vs. the with ads version now that WB theatrical day and date releases are no longer included?

It is also available if you have their unlimited mobile plan (the Elite plan). Used to be that all lines had to have the elite plan. Not anymore. Now all you need is one line on the elite plan and you get free HBO. That's $5 extra.
