Lacking content definitely isn't an issue.

No you didn't. You just came here to bag on Matrix which has zero to do with HBO Max.

This is true but it was only free for one year for me.
If you have directv and AT&T subscription with them you get HBO Max for free as long as you both have the subscription.

What's the yearly cost for with ads?
$99.99 is the yearly plan. With the offer, the total cost for a year is $95.88.

Just to note for those that have AT&T fiber for ISP that the gigabit plan includes HBO Max for free. I have no idea if this is targeted by area but can confirm that this is offered in the downtown Fort Worth, TX area. I also think this will likely go away once AT&T divests the abominations known as DirecTV and WarnerMedia.
in austin tx it was free for only 1 year.

Thanks OP for posting it, but IMO this is not such a good deal. The current price for, say, the ad-free yearly subscription is $149.99. A year with the offer (12 months at $11.99) is $143.88. Very little savings.
True but you get to pay month to month instead of in one lump sum prepayment, which isn't much but it's something.

The Wire > Breaking Bad > Sopranos
I liked The Wire; I lived in Baltimore for years, and used to walk past them filming it. That said, there were parts that were VERY slow.

Sopranos is often voted "higher", but bingeing it all at once, there's definitely some loose plot holes and strange dialogue points, in 2022.

I'd say Breaking Bad may be the best overall. The Wire/Sopranos, difficult to differentiate. One day maybe I'll rewatch the Wire, but that's a big ask.... (And kind of depressing.)

Yes it is severely lacking. Had it for years and unless I had an urge to watch an old movie it wasn't worth it. There is sadly more recent and relevant movies on prime
If you're only interested in movies that might be the case. The backlog of TV series is where HBO Max shines.

theyre desperate
I am thinking about canceling my HBO max subscription. They HAD great series. Now it is just average. Not better than Hulu or Netflix. It feels that canceling it and starting over again in one year or so might be best option

So how is this with ads? Is there ads during a movie/show or just at the beginning?

I cancelled my subscription and it ends on January 26th! Looks like I will have to create a new account to take advantage of this deal on the final day of January 25th. Just curious if I should go for the one with ads....

I.E. Charlie Ergen and his Dish Network swallows DirecTv whole. Just as fellow billionaire John Malone has done with his Discovery Networks taking new ownership of WarnerMedia, 🔜 to be know as Warner Bros. Discovery "The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of".

The wire was way overrated in my opinion. Very good show but not amazing.

Deadwood on the other hand is really underrated. I loved binging it. I was amazed such a good show was on there that I had never heard much about.

I had this service for a few months and found it lacking content. Yes, there's some recent movies out now but I'll wait until there's a significant backlog of shows/movies I can watch readily. Having to pay a monthly fee to watch something new every 2-3 months wasn't worth it
I heard the drop movies when they are about to be released on Blu-ray
