Pay $600 for an NVMe drive because I love speed or pay $800 for one that's twice as fast? It's easily worth the PCIe 4.0 one that's twice is fast IMO.
But I don't love speed enough to pay this much. I settled for a $170 1TB PCIe 4.0 six months ago. That's plenty fast enough for my OS and enough space for my favorite games/apps.

Pretty sure it's been that price for a while.
The PCI 4.0 version is about 100 bucks more.
I'm waiting for the 8tb 4.0 version and some benchmarks and power usage stats.

It's gen 4 and a lot cheaper.
EDIT: 4 TB version seems to be QLC NAND.
