Having had both laptops, I can clearly say the L7 is better. I returned the L5P due to faulty touchpad. It would randomly freeze, not letting me move the cursor at all, or not recognize the number of fingers I was using in a gesture (eg, cursor moves when trying to two-finger scroll). This issue has been reported by other L5P users. The L7 touchpad, on the other hand, works perfectly. It's also glass instead of plastic so it feels better, similar to my old MacBook Pro.
Almost all the L7 chassis is metal, while L5P uses more plastic. I mostly played GTA Online at max specs for tests. You'll get about the same performance from both, but L7 runs around 10°C cooler than my L5P did. I think the sound is also a bit better on the L7, but I don't know the difference in speaker specs. And of course, lots of rgb on the L7 (if you're into that... I was fine with the L5P rgb).
Only things I miss from the L5P are the black on gray of the keyboard (much easier to read with backlight off) and not needing iCUE (serious battery killer, removed it but have to use stock rgb options).
