H8G1 is actually a different tv than the H8G from 2020 so rting rating does not apply. It is a new Amazon exclusive model. H8G1 is actually closer to the U6G. It pairs the processor and firmware of the U6G (to the extent that it identifies itself as a U6G when you turn it on) with the backlight system of the H8G which is brighter and has more dimming zones. the video reviewer linked above tested all the hisense models and noted that the H8G1 did in fact have superior picture quality to the U6G with better blacks and brighter highlights. The improved algorithms and increased number of dimming zones actually enabled it to outperform the U8G in terms of local dimming system effectiveness, although not as bright as the U8G and losing slightly in overall quality to the U8G. This sales price has been up for a little while now, but it's good someone posted since not many people are even aware it exists separate from the original 2020 H8G. No Rtings review specifically covers this unfortunately, but for the same $450 sales price for the 55", I would have to take this over the U6G. Basically the same features, with a slightly higher peak brightness and better local dimming over a U6G that already has much better contrast than anything other budget market LED from 2021 lineups. That being said, in the 55" class Amazon also currently has the H9G from 2020 for only $50 more ($499). The H9G was a very well reviewed flagship that couldn't be matched for the price even at launch, and is essentially the 2021 U8G which I have without HDMI 2.1 and VRR. The model reviewed by Rtings had exceptional black uniformity, and has now had enough time on the market to receive firmware updates to greatly improve the local dimming algorithm to relieve ghosting issues. The 55" also has the same number of dimming zones as the U8G, and despite having a lower declared peak brightness level of 1,000 nits, real content testing has actual revealed sustained levels well above that. It even also has a 120hz panel, though it doesn't actually support 120hz signals. Given the current stage of it's release cycle, the updates and improvements since launch might make this an even better option at 55" today than the U8G for everyday video consumption, as the U8G will need a number of firmware updates before it reaches it's full potential. If I hadn't gotten the 55U8G for $650 over the holidays and was still searching super bowl deals for a new TV, I believe I would take the slightly more expensive route to grab an H9G over this. That being said, the H8G1 is absolutely a great TV at this price point, and is more competitive compared to the H9G at their current 65" price points.

I bought 2 Hisense, first 65" lasted under 2 years luckily I bought warrant. But, Allstate gave me around $80 less then what I paid for (value excluding tax). Now my recent 60" Hisense crapped out less than a year and manufacturer warranty doesn't want anything to do with it... Told me to contact my extended warranty.. and extended warranty told me to contact Hisense.... Still waiting on response from both parties. Just buy the extended warranty if anyone goes with Hisense imho..

Funny enough, my father bought a Samsung that was normally $1300 from Costco and it looks awful. Brand doesn't mean it's better.

I bought 2 Hisense, first 65" lasted under 2 years luckily I bought warrant. But, Allstate gave me around $80 less then what I paid for (value excluding tax). At this price this TV is a great option. Asking for high end features in a 65 at this price is silly. Unless you're watching old 480i content continually it's a good pick.

I'm shopping for a 55" in the next few months and, if I were buying today, I'd be on the fence between this and the 2020 55H9G. The H9G should have the superior picture all around, but if the 55H8G1 is build on the newer processing platform of the U6G, that may be of some benefit in terms of longer support.

I'm also on the fence with Hisense as a whole after having a refurb 50H8F that I received as a warranty replacement for a nearly 5yr old 50H6C (bought BF back when they still had the 5yr warranty) die after only 9 months with no recourse from Hisense (only 3 month warranty on the refurb). Still, I'm not sure there's anything that close in terms of PQ for the price, especially in terms of HDR brightness (similar TCL and Vizio models are far dimmer).

Returned my 65u8g because of the stutter and terrible motion handling and bloom. I'm in for the 65 on this. I had a 55ug6 and imo it looked much better than the ug8. Seeing as this is a basically a ug6 with more dimming zones I'm hoping this looks good as the 55ug6 I returned. Starting to wonder if the 55" is Hisense's sweet spot. I don't really game on my tv and I just watch movies in a dark room. I'll report my findings on Wednesday when I get it. If the 65 is trash I'm going to return and get another 55. Ugh this has been annoying

The 82" up8770 was on sale recently for $1200...might go back down around superbowl should be good enough for your use.

Really wanted to upsize my current 55" Sony OLED to this 65" deal. I've heard great things about the UG8 but can one tell the difference and go back to non OLEDs and not make a fuss?

Darnit SD! I didn't need this. Have the 65" Element UHD from the Target $299 sale (non-QLED of course). That set has been okay, but the blooming is awful.

At 2x the price ($299 to $599), I think it's worth it to have a panel that can actually be used to watch movies with dark scenes. :-)

First time returning an open box TV. Cannot wait to see how the Target experience will be.

Get the 55H7G. 120hz, HDMI 2.1, great picture. Amazon has it for $649

TV's like the Samsung QN90A have received rave reviews and according to rtings much better than the mini led TV's put out by TCL
