4.7 out of 5 (1,113 reviews) doesn't equal "awful" in my opinion.

I bought these and they are by far the worst batteries I've ever purchased. I used them in led candles that stay on 6 hours a day, and they last about two weeks. Some don't last that long. In comparison, other batteries last 2 -4 months.

The regular Amazon Basics have been good, but not these "industrial". They're called industrial because they're made to be cheap for companies to give away with electronics that require batteries, like with cable box remotes.

i use up the last little bit of juice in old aa batteries in led flickering candles

Well, awful is subjective and everyone has their own experience. I would say for my use I would not buy these. I want to spend less time changing batteries. Also, out of 30 recent reviews 11 complain about the battery life. That is enough for me to stay away

I tried that with the insignia AAs until I had one explode inside one. I had good luck with them until that. I switched to buying Rayovac once a year when they run them super cheap, and they've been great. Not as long lasting as energizer, but still a good battery for the price.

The insignia were pretty good up to that point. They raised the sale price of them, so it just made more sense to load up on the Rayovac or Energizer once a year when they're deeply discounted, but the normal Amazon Basics (not the industrial) seems good too.

Aren't most batteries guaranteed for 10 years? That right away makes me wonder about these at 5 years. Also it's a bigger deal of you invest in a ton of them if they turn out to be bad.

I can get alkaline, 6 for 1.25 ($.21/battery) at the dollar store. Not quite as good price per battery, but I doubt most people need 150 AAs, or if they do, they should be using rechargeables for that use case.
