Sony for:
- Size
- Darker rooms
- Better sound
- PS5

Samsung for:
- Brighter rooms
- Need for viewing at wide angles
- Better UI
- XboxSX

Both are really good choices and I think it mostly comes down to the location you will put it in. Light in room, how far your seats are from the TV, what angle from the TV, etc.
I'm on the lookout for any deal on the 85".
Can you clarify why one is better for the PS5 and the other better for XboxSX?

btw. costco last sale for 85 for 2999 went on 90 days as of 1/23

my theory is they are waiting 90 days from last sale, so they wont adjust or return/rebuy.

I think after 90 days, 1/23 costco is dropping 85 inch Q85 to 2699. just a hunch. im waiting patiently.

How many ports support HDMI 2.1? Samsung website specs do not mention anything about it.

I have 2017 75" Samsung TV (from Costco). I could never make it work with my Onkyo NR646 amplifier with HDMI passthrough. Onkyo tech support claimed that it is the Samsung TV issue in multiple phone calls.

Not sure about this new Samsung TV.
1 port has 2.1 port4.

Had the 85 inch of this and it broke. First the Wi-Fi went out and then the remote would no longer pair and finally the panel quit working. At first Samsung was going to replace it but then due to lack of stock they chose to refund my purchase price I still have the tv as they haven't picked it up yet. The whole process has been frustrating. I plan on getting a Hisense u7g 75 inch that will be half the cost of the Samsung. It was a nice tv when I first had it but I have seen the Hisense and am pretty impressed since it has both Dolby vision and Dolby atmos. 2 hdmi 2.1 ports. For bang for buck in my opinion for movies and Xbox series s or X it is a better bargain. I have the 55 inch version and it is been an awesome tv so far. By the way I barely had the Samsung 85 3 months b4 I started having problems with it.

There's an actual benefit getting a Sony TV with a PS5? I thought it it was just easier to set up, that type of thing?

I had a 65 curved Samsung and it never had one issue but this neoqled model looked so good I sold the curved one and bought the 85. I agree with you but I received a less than pleasant experience with Samsung care. First it was gonna be A tech come out then it was they don't have 6he parts available and we will replace the unit then after I got my hopes up they said they couldn't replace it but instead only give me back my purchase price less the tax I paid. So in the end I getting back $3,000.00 but not the $279.00 worth of taxes I paid and like I stated I still have the tv and they still have the money so right now all I have is Samsung paperweight. Every person I talked to in the resolutions dept told me something different. Leaves a bad taste in this consumers mind.

Got the q80A 65 for 1050 at video only today. I was debating between this 85 and the 80. I guess the Samsung logo not being in the center for the 85 pushed me to the 80. I wanted close to the best led tv since i feel that peppa pig will burn in the LG oled.
The 80 looks super nice when off due to AR coating (looks with a tint of a red rainbow) i suspect the 85 is the same. Great tvs.

In short, the Sony doesn't support a few things for the XSX, but the Samsung does. Sony doesn't support XSX for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), no ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), and a 1440p 120hz res setting. Few more details on things below from rtings as well.

"The Sony X90J can display a 4K @ 120Hz from both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, it can't do it in Dolby Vision on the Xbox because when the HDMI Signal Format is set to 'Enhanced Format (Dolby Vision)' the Xbox indicates that the TV doesn't support 120Hz at 4k, which is the same behavior as the Sony X900H. This means you have to choose between 4K @ 120Hz or Dolby Vision at 60Hz. Auto Low Latency Mode doesn't work, but if you enable Auto Picture Mode, it recognizes the PS5 and automatically changes the Picture Mode to 'Game', and it only works with Sony devices."

"The Samsung QN85A supports most resolutions for the latest gaming consoles. The TV has an Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) as well, which is activated by setting Game Mode to 'Auto' or 'On', or enabling 'CEC'."

I got the 85" on verdetoe yesterday for 2900...important to note that includes shipping and tax. Costco may throw in additional warranty but I'm not sure that's needed for these QLED panels, but even 2699 is a higher price than is available now.

In my opinion, The 2 best options for the xbox series X are either the LG OLED C Series or the Hisense U8G series. I ended up buying the Hisense U8G series and couldn't be happier. I was hesitant to buy a Hisense but so far the tv has been fantastic. The U8G is capable of doing everything the Series X has to offer, VRR, ALLM, 120hz, etc. It was nice to see all green checkmarks in the video settings of the series x.

I chose the Hisense over the LG for 3 reasons. It's much brighter than the LG, I would always have a fear of permanent Burn in with the OLED and the price was much better.
