US Tool and Fastener has the full 16pc WaveCutter Forstner bit set for only $250! I say "only"... and I mean it: these things are anywhere from $440 (Home Depot) to $470 (Woodcraft) to $565 (Granger, although, this is
obscene).
The WaveCutters are Fisch's top-end Forstner bit, which make smooth, flat-bottom holes in softwood, hardwood, composites, laminates, even chip board and MDF. Made in Austria, they have a unique, patented wave-form cutting edge (vs the typical serrated ones you see on wood-cutting Forstners), which stays sharp 3 times longer and cuts cleaner holes with less tear out at 25% of the power draw. Plus they can be resharpened up to 30 times before needing to be replaced, without specialized sharpening gear.
The sizes Included in the set are: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1", 1 1/8", 1 1/4", 1 3/8", 1 1/2", 1 5/8", 1 3/4", 1 7/8", 2" & 2 1/8

On a related note: did anyone else notice the skyrocket in prices on tools - almost across the board - on the first? Some of the Grizzly stuff increased by 50-60%

The sales pitch, "...drill 3 times (sometimes it is 3.5 times) the number of holes before needing to be re-sharpened," as compared to what? The Chinese HSS? Certainly not Freud and other top brands of HCS and absolutely not compared to decent carbide bits.
But, the box is pretty and complete sets are nice, but you still might want the Metric set. Oh, don't forget the diamond card to sharpen "up to 30 times," as you will need it.

I mentioned they were not carbide. A fine diamond card to touch up is quick and does not remove much material.
Anyone that has purchased a complete set, typically only uses a couple of the sizes. For those sizes commonly used, I would spend the money for quality carbide bits. Not much different than saw blades, router bits, etc.
I was so bummed.. they, for the money, had great Brad Point bits!
It breaks my heart to see so many quality brands just appear to have given up over the past 5 years. It's as if aliens came to earth, and abducted the Quality Control staff from many former, great, companies, but the companies just never refilled the position. Lol.

I do wish WoodOwl would make smaller bits for woodworking. I'd love a 1/8" to 9/32" set of smooth shanked Overdrive type bits. Lol.
