How do I get Keep and Switch?
To qualify for T-Mobile to reimburse your remaining device payment balance, up to $800, you must:
Have a device financing agreement on an eligible device with AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum, Boost, Claro, Liberty, Xfinity or UScellular and have had the agreement for at least 90 days on that network.
For Boost requires devices to be active on the associated account for at least 12 months
Activate a new voice line on a qualified rate plan
Qualified rate plans include: Magenta, Magenta MAX, Magenta Plus, Magenta Military, Magenta MAX Military Magenta Plus Military, Magenta First Responders, Magenta MAX First Responders, Magenta Plus First Responders, Magenta Unlimited 55, Magenta MAX Unlimited 55Magenta Plus Unlimited 55, Essentials, Essentials Unlimited 55, and Business Unlimited.
Ensure your phone is unlocked and ready to go on our network. Check your phone's compatibility here.
For customers with phones locked to the carrier (AT&T, Boost, Claro, Spectrum & Xfinity) this means you will have to pay off your phone, request unlock, and wait for your unlock request to be granted (typically takes 1-3 days) prior to bringing your number over.
Capture screenshot of device financing details e.g. device payment balance and device financing tenure showing 90 days on network prior to bringing your number over (port in)
Bring your number over (port in) to T-Mobile once you have confirmed your phone is unlocked
Submit for reimbursement at
www.switch2t-mobile.com within 30 days of activation
Break from your carrier and we'll cover support costs on your eligible device. You'll also get up to $800 via virtual prepaid card to help pay it off.

T Mobile service has been a joke in the Bay Area. Non existent in areas Verizon, Google Fi, and AT&T are such as near the Oakland Zoo. No service when two bars LTE are present. Speeds that range from blazing 300 Mbps (once or twice at night) to not any better than 4G (20 Mbps) during the day.
I will be happily looking to take up an offer to switch after only a few weeks with T Mobile.
Why is this a good deal?
If I have a $500 balance (say) on my iPhone 12, I understand that I'll have to pay ATT, get them to unlock the device, go through this transfer, hope everything works, and pay the same $30/month for the lowest tier unlimited plan with an inferior network all in exchange for.. $500?!?
What am I missing?
