Was at my local Home Depot today and saw this Honda lawnmower on clearance. Decided to post it here because I almost never see Honda lawnmowers on sale or clearance. Regular price is $700 and it was in clearance for $524. They had a few here at home depot largo, FL.

I hate it when plastic rusts too
lol... I saw that, but realized it is the axle that actually rusts to then eat on the plastic bushings.

I would think that lubrication/rust preventive over grinding down the axle a little would be the standard maintenance, but whatever works. Once the rust is there, grind it is. Smilie

Starting in 2024, the sale of gas lawn mowers will be banned in California. If you live in CA and want a gas mower, you better buy it now.
.
It does not sound like they had a lot of choice in the attempt to meet Federal EPA rules. But, if you read the law below, there are going to be incentives to convert. If I lived in California, I would wait for the incentives.

They're gonna take away your gas lawnmowers first, then your guns. History always repeats itself.

Apparently, it may become state wide with increased incentives beyond just push mowers.

About now in those four counties would be a good time to take in a junk gas one if you are thinking about purchasing a battery powered.

Just to praise like the other posts, I am still using a ~30 year old honda HRT216 SDA. Just had to replace the transmission last year (it's actually an easy job and parts were $120) but beyond that I've had no issues besides two carb replacements and every few year wheel replacements. Constantly amazed the motor on this thing is still going. Been waiting for it to die to pick up one of these newer and much lighter honda mowers.

I learned about this mess last month. Went looking for a part number for my self-propelled gas Husqvarna mower and they only list one new gas push version on their website and it's over $1000. But they have 15 robot mowers and several other electric push mowers... I have yet to find an electric product that last to complete the intended job.

your last sentence doesn't make sense... I stick with the more expensive to repair option?
No. Stick with the HYA transmission because they are less likely to need repairs. Just know that if/and when the HYA transmission needs repair, it will cost more. The VKA transmissions are more likely to have transmission problems is what the lawn mower repair shops told me.

I too have the 216. Wish they would put blade breaks on the newer versions, but it has otherwise been a great lawn mower. Can't go wrong

Honda mowers have crap tires. Have had to replace mine every year. Apparently they use some type of synthetic material instead of rubber.
