It totally makes sense. It would require a whole boost circuit charge controller and battery management circuit. It's not a freebie nor does anything else in the device make adding that cheaper or synergistic other than the plastic.

I had one of these for about a week. It wasn't great. Actually, it was garbage. I tried charging some phones off the USB ports as well as plugging in a regular power adapter to it. Barely worked. Same with a couple iPads and a relatively low wattage laptop. I don't know if mine was just a dud, but wanted to give my anecdata.

I am very interested, my shed my mower kept dying from sitting in shed all seasons or over winter, so I installed a single 100 watt solar panel, with a 12v maintainer on it, works quite well. didnt die at all for last year or two. very happy with that.! too far to run power to run a battery tinder.
